Congrats to Attack The Block star John Boyega for his listing on Screen International's annual list of the UK stars of tomorrow, highlighting the year's hottest new acting and filmmaking talent. I believe he's the only talent of African descent mentioned on the entire list (both actors and filmmakers) of 31. You UK folks can correct me if I'm wrong about that (you can see the full list HERE).

A sci-fi version of Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness? One of the most controversial tales over the last century+, telling the story of Marlow, the cargo boat captain in Africa at the end of the 19th century, on assignment to return Kurtz, an ivory trader with a reputation, who encounters the "darkness" of the Congo wilderness, and the "darkness" that resides within human beings, after witnessing the brutalization of Africans by white European traders. Here's a project that's been in the works since 2009, when we first announced it. I'd forgotten all about it, and I'm surprised to learn that it's still in development, and not dead. At least that's what we can gather from the below quote from the director Kasi Lemmons, revealed in an interview with women-centered site TheWip.net, posted just yesterday.
