The beat goes on for the Smith Family's adaptation of the Broadway classic musical Annie, with Willow Smith in the title role, and poppa and momma Smith producing under their Overbrook Entertainment banner, in a joint venture with Jay-Z, who will also produce the soundtrack for the film.

A noteworthy mention in the UK's Guardian this afternoon of the big screen adaptation of David Mitchell's challenging tome Cloud Atlas, which is being written and directed by Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run), and The Wachowskis, with Halle Berry and Tom Hanks confirmed in starring roles.

Cleveland get your still and recording cameras ready... I know we have readers in that Northeastern Ohio city, so I fully expect to some of you will snap photos and record video (or should I say "steal" some shots) while principal photography is happening, and email them to me so we can share here. I think most would agree with me when I say that of all the work Tyler Perry has done thus far, this one inspires the most interest and speculation for a variety of reasons - many we've already tossed around on this site. I'm genuinely curious to see how this all turns out in the end. Seriously; no joke here.

Press release below... the gist: a select number of short films from the 2012 installment of the festival will premiere on b>Yahoo's highly-trafficked Yahoo! Movies site (27.5 million users per month). Viewers will then vote for the best film which will win an audience award presented to the winning filmmaker at the Short Film Awards party during the festival.
