Seems like it was just yesterday that the country was all abuzz over Ava DuVernay's feature narrative debut, I Will Follow, which recently concluded its noteworthy theatrical run - noteworthy because it was AFFRM's first release (AFFRM being the African American Film Festival Release Movement, spearheaded by Ava herself).

He’s certainly been stacking up the projects over the last couple of years, since Precious; but when is Lee Daniels going to actually, finally get the chance to make one of them? Precious debuted 2 years ago, at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival. Since its theatrical release, Daniels’ name has been attached to quite a few projects – Selma, Miss Saigon, Iced, Anna In The Tropics, The Butler, and more, including, most recently, The Paperboy, which we first announced in February, but wasn't entirely a done deal at the time.

As if you needed any further evidence, but here ya go anyway... numbers and charts released a couple of days ago... in brief, in 2010 the domestic DVD market continued its steady decline (dropping roughly 44%% from 2009 to 2010, damn!), as consumers like you and I (with Sergio being the lone dissenter) shift our home video viewing habits, from DVDs to streaming/VOD services, like Netflix, and Amazon.com, amongst others.

Well, it looks like it's going to happen. The Nina Simone biopic, titled Nina, has probably invoked more emotion on this site than any other post (excluding Tyler Perry) but Mary J Blige told US Magazine recently that she's taking acting lesson and filming is set to begin later this month. In fact, Deadline states filming will begin May 23.

With the opening weekend box office success of Jumping The Broom for Tri-Star/Sony Pictures, it looks like the studio may have found it's very own Tyler Perry in the form of Rev. T.D. Jakes, who has already produced several films, including Broom; now Rev. Jakes has struck a deal to co-produce (along with veteran Hollywood producer and former Fox Studio chief Joe Roth ) a filmed version of the best selling non-fiction book Heaven is For Real: A Little Boy's Astounding Story of His Trip To Heaven And Back.

Seems like damn near every other article on S & A for the past week has been about Quentin Tarantino's magnum opus hasn't it? And despite Tambay's disappointing review of the script (below), it's the hottest property in Hollywood right now. (WHAT????? You mean Tambay has no clout in Hollywood?)

There hasn't been much news on this film since our last post on this, in December 2010. As far as I know, the sales and production team behind it are negotiating release deals and dates, so it really hasn't screened very much since its worldwide debut at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival last October.

He hasn't been behind the camera since 2009's Law Abiding Citizen; since then he's been attached to a Marvin Gaye biopic, and the film adaptation of the video game titled Kane & Lynch, which was/is to star Jamie Foxx and Bruce Willis; though nothing has happened on either front.
