It’s hard to reduce Atlanta-based filmmaker Vandon Gibbs dramatic thriller Solace to a simple description. Suffice to say that it is, without question, quite original, with a plot that goes off in totally unexpected directions.

Slim, slim picking this week folks! I had to dig a little deeper for titles. But let me take this moment to say, if you're a filmmaker reading this, and your film is streaming on Netflix, please let me know. Netflix unfortunately doesn't have what I feel should be a more efficient search/sort method, and it can be quite a chore trying to find something worth watching. So, help me out if you can.

A film that screened during FESPACO 2013 (not in Official Selection, but at the Goethe Institut of Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso), and which has effectively been banned in the filmmaker's country (Cameroon) due to content that's critical of the government, Jean-Pierre Bekolo's latest film, Le President (The President), has been picked up by African video-on-demand platform Buni TV (www.buni.tv, a service of Buni Media, the production company behind The XYZ Show, Kenya’s hit political satire show with an audience of 10 million), which will thankfully make the film widely-available.

There's an absurdity (in a good, useful, entertaining way) that I thought funny as I watched the trailer - as in, it's an intentional absurdity, meant to poke fun at bureaucratic red-tape - in Nigeria specifically, although this could be in many other parts of the world.
