LOS ANGELES – September 28, 2011 – The beloved series STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION® will be transferred to high-definition for the first time ever and released on Blu-ray™, it was announced today by Ken Ross, Executive Vice President and General Manager of CBS Home Entertainment. All 178 episodes from seven seasons will be transferred to true high-definition 1080p for release on Blu-ray and eventual runs on television and digital platforms both domestically and internationally.

In my review of Djo Tunda Wa Munga's crime drama, Viva Riva!, I highlighted the film's audacious depictions of the kind of orchestrated sexuality and violence rarely seen in African cinema (specifically cinema of the DRC - the Democratic Republic Of The Congo, where such scenes are taboo); a kind of "fuck-you" to the status quo in a country that hadn't seen a feature film produced in over 2 decades.

I recall Sergio's post earlier this year, announcing that the film was coming to Blu-ray, in which he touched on this, calling the film "the modern black urban male ultimate macho fantasy," in reference to the fact that it's so well loved and appreciated by brothas in hip-hop.
