I first profiled this dude about a year ago; buzz about a film he's starring in picked up recently, since it was announced that it will finally make its world debut at the Berlin Film Festival this month, after 5 or more years in production (this is what happens when you're making sci-fi parody without any real steady financial backing.

It may not be widely-known that Spike Lee's younger brother, Cinque Lee, is also a filmmaker (as well as actor, producer, editor, composer and more), and has written and directed 4 feature-length films since the late 80s, all independently financed, produced and distributed.

Her name isn't one that's mentioned much when general discussions about up-and-coming young black actresses are had, on this site and elsewhere; but, as I said to our Twitter and Facebook followers yesterday, she's definitely one to watch, if not THE one to watch right now, as she garners lots of critical acclaim for her performance in Stick Fly, the stage play currently running on Broadway, which we've given lots of coverage to here on S&A.

Yes, I'm late on this, but I never bothered to watch the series; and I was only just reminded of it because of an ad that kept popping up on almost every Facebook page I clicked on today, so I thought, hmm, maybe the ad is trying to tell me something, so I clicked on it and remembered... oh yeah, there's a reason why I wanted to check out this series... because there are black people in its starring cast.

One thing I love about the work I do hear on S&A is learning about new filmmakers and their work, and then following their careers once that initial discovery is made.

Well... you go where the work is (especially if it's the kind of work you love). It might mean we'll see a lot less of her on the big screen in the immediate future... but, then again, it's been awhile since we last saw Sophie Okonedo in that format; 2008, when she had 2 films in circulation - The Secret Life Of Bees and the lesser-known Skin.

Season 2 of Idris Elba's critically-acclaimed BBC drama series Luther has officially ended (it aired in the UK earlier this year, and in the US earlier this month), with just 4 episodes. That's it. Just 4 measly episodes, unlike last season's 6, leaving fans still hungry for more of the *mental* detective.
