It's Time To Stop Drinking Hollywood's Kool-Aid

Of all the media coverage given to the Red Tails film within the last couple of weeks, one surprising belief that surfaced often was the idea that supporting the film at the box office would "send Hollywood a message" and somehow force studio executives to finally consider greenlighting more black film projects.  Now, I can understand the average Joe saying this but a number of industry folks repeated this same mantra which, quite frankly, seemed idiotic.  Why are we still trying to court Hollywood?  Am I the only one who got the "we don't do black films anymore" Hollywood memo?

I recently got my hands on a DVD copy of the BBC's acclaimed 2010 legal drama, Accused. The six-part series features the stories of six separate characters who have, through various circumstances, found themselves entangled in the criminal justice system, sitting in a courtroom, awaiting their individual fates. Throughout each episode, viewers learn how they ended up there in the first place.

From the desk of The Hollywood Reporter, Shonda Rhimes has landed another production deal, this time with the Fox Network. Through ABC studios and her company Shonda Shingles, Fox will air a new coming of age dramedy called Wildwood. The show revolves around an '80's teen who pretends to be an adult in order to work at a bar on the Jersey Shore.

Last Night the much anticipated fourth season of True Blood premiered on HBO. As some of our long time readers know, I’m not a huge fan of some key elements in the show. In case you don’t recall, here’s my post from last summer. I took series creator Alan Ball and the True Blood writers to task on their ridiculous and sometimes paper thin portrayal of the show’s two characters of color, Tara (Rutina Wesley) and Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis). I vowed with three episodes left in the third series, never to watch the show again.

Something happened recently that's resonated with me for awhile now. I did a posting on the Hollywood Black "A-List" and in gathering photos for the post, I noticed the ONLY woman of a darker hue was Viola Davis. Instantly, I did a double check to make sure I wasn't missing anyone but, in keeping with the topic, came to the same conclusion.

Ok, I confess. After Comingsoon.net confirmed a report that Johnny Depp will have a cameo role in the new 21 Jump Street film in development, I'm launching my one woman crusade to get Holly Robinson Peete on board. How can they NOT include Holly in this?
