It screened publicly for the very first time last night at the Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles, where I'll be by this time next week; so I obviously wasn't present for the premiere. I had to make some decisions on when I could be there, and it turned out that the latter half of the festival was better suited for me.

For almost as long as I've been running Shadow And Act, a question I'm asked often, whether via email, or when I meet folks in person (mostly black filmmakers and black actors) is whether I can connect them with any "support groups" for black filmmakers/actors/etc in their respective cities (although, most often, the question comes from folks living in so-called *big cities* like New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, and others).

We've had all kinds of smackdown debates and conversations here at S&A about films, directors, actors and actresses but one person that's virtually never come up in all those discussions is Denzel Washington and with good reason...he's the consummate actor.  You may or may not like a film he appears in but you can always count on him giving a riveting performance.

So this is the time of the year where every film critic and association on the planet makes their list of the top films for 2011.  However, I though it would be nice to ask YOU, the savvy S&A reader, what films made your "Best Of 2011" list?  I'm actually quite curious.

While posting the new poster for Matthew Cherry's feature debut, The Last Fall, I thought about its 2 young stars, Lance Gross and Nicole Beharie; and that led to thoughts on up-and-coming young black actors and actresses who'll eventually replace *our* current seasoned veterans.

AMC's post-Civil War drama series titled Hell On Wheels, one of 7 or so Civil War-themed projects (TV and film) currently in development at various studios, premiered last night, Sunday, November 6 at 10/9c on the network. This one co-stars rapper-turned-actor Common, who plays a character named Elam - a freed, bi-racial slave who heads west to find work, while also hoping to find his place in society, as he doesn’t feel that he fits squarely into either the “black world” or the “white world.”
