"Phunny Business" Documentary Premieres On Showtime Thursday

After its successful film festival curcuit run, the documentary Phunny Business, which chronicles the rise and fall of the legednary black Chicago comedy club All Jokes Aisde, will be seen nationwide when it makes its premiere on Showtime this Thursday Feb 23 at 8:30PM (7:30PM Central time).

With shooting on Tyler Perry's The Marriage Counselor likely complete by now, actress Jurnee Smollett has signed on to play the lead in a new NBC women's prison drama pilot titled Bad Girls - an adaptation of a UK series I first told you about last September when it was reported then that NBC had picked up rights to the program.

I'm sure many of you would like a reminder that Tulane professor, writer, social ciritc and media pundit Melissa Harris-Perry's new weekend MSNBC show called Melissa Harris-Perry (granted not the most original title), will make its long awaited debut on the cable news network tomorrow, starting at 10AM (9AM Central).

TBS has ordered 35 new episodes of Tyler Perry's latest sitcom, For Better Or Worse, the ensemble comedy based on characters from his Why Did I Get Married? flicks, starring Tasha Smith and Michael Jai White.

Slavery By Another Name should be required viewing; although I imagine the book, which I haven't read, is even more comprehensive, incisive and inciting.

Ok, seriously folks, by now, I would assume that MOST of you, if not all, have seen The Black Power Mixtape 1967-1975; since its Sundance 2011 debut, screenings of the film have occurred around the country; it's been on DVD since early December; it's been available for streaming on Netflix and Amazon.

Oprah Winfrey has announced that she's officially launching her own 2012 Oscar Special (maybe filling the slot left vacant by Babara Wah-Wah), which is scheduled to air next week Wednesday, February 15th, on the OWN network of course, from 9pm to 11pm ET/PT.
