"Holler If Ya Hear Me" - Musical Based On The Music Of Tupac Shakur In Development By Kenny Leon

A film based on the late rapper/actor's life is still in Limbo (Antoine Fuqua was to direct it, and even began the casting process last spring, but nothing came from that, and Fuqua left the project; John Singleton then was said to have taken over for Fuqua, but then he left the project as well); but a Tupac Shakur stage musical is apparently in the works with Kenny Leon (maybe the most popular black director working on Broadway right now; although there aren't exactly many of them).

We already told you about the planned remake, as well as a stage musical adaptation of the 1992 film, 'The Bodyguard, which starred Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston.

On the heels of my post announcing that the Broadway revival of Porgy & Bess is being extended an additional 2 1/2 months past its originally scheduled closing date, thanks to overwhelming demand and popularity... the other black show currently on Broadway has announced the end of its run.

The revival of Porgy & Bess on Broadway is apparently doing incredibly well at the box office, so much that the producers of the show announced today that they will extend the musical's run, which was originally scheduled to end on July 8, to September 30!

Join Blair Underwood as “Stanley,” Nicole Ari Parker as “Blanche, Daphne Rubin-Vega as Stella, and Wood Harris as “Mitch” in the upcoming Broadway production of Tennessee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire, directed by Emily Mann, beginning on April 3rd (previews) ahead of an official April 22nd opening.

The recently slimmed-down diva, Ms Raven-Symoné is set to take over the lead role in the Broadway musical Sister Act (based on the hit 1992 movie of the same name), replacing Patina Miller (who originated the role from the start) as Deloris Van Cartier (the character Whoopi Goldberg played in the original film and its sequel).
