News of Idris Elba playing Nelson Mandela has been circulating the web for at least a month or 2, and while we've known about it, we didn't (and still haven't) posted anything about it because, as far as I know, there hasn't been any confirmation of it... until now anyway.

Director Stephen Frears (Interview with A Vampire) has announced that he will not cast an actor for the role of Muhammad Ali in his soon-in-production HBO film Muhammad's Ali's Greatest Fight, and will instead use achival footage of Ali for his film.

Producer Hal Lieberman (Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Vacancy) has acquired rights to football legend/actor Jim Brown's life story for a feature film that will be written by Bob Eisele (The Great Debaters) and directed by Jonathan Hock, (primarily a director of documentaries like Lost Son Of Havana and Michael Jordan To The Max).

Welll... Dreamgirls was a Broadway success (it was a Broadway musical before the film adaptation in 2006), so why not Sparkle, right? In fact, wasn't the original Sparkle movie (released in 1976) an inspiration for the initial Dreamgirls Broadway production of 1981?

With all the emphasis on whether the upcoming Sparkle remake release will at all be affected by star Whitney Houston's passing, I forgot all about that sequel to Waiting To Exhale that was officially announced in 2010, when author Terry McMillan's book (which the sequel will be based on) Getting To Happy hit bookstore shelves.
