In light of last night's steamy episode of Scandal, as we saw Kerry Washington as Olivia Pope and Tony Goldwyn as Fitzgerald "Fitz" Grant heated up our TV screens with one or two scenes that made some of us wonder how they got past network TV censors, and also because it's Friday, I thought I'd take us back about 44 years, to the November 22, 1968 Star Trek episode titled Plato's Stepchildren, which is popularly-cited as the first example of a scripted kiss between a white man and black woman on American television (between Kirk and Uhura).

So with all the attention on Tarantino's Django Unchained (which I confess I've seen already and absoluely love - but I'll get to that soon in due time) one should keep in mind that the basic premise of a black and white team of bounty hunters isn't new at all. In fact there was a TV show based on the same premise back in 1968.

It's a slow news day today, and with good reason - it's Election Day. And I'm manning (or womanning in my case) the site in the meantime, while others handle their civic duties, and other matters. Very loooong lines at polling statings I hear.

Well, it finally happened on last night's episode. If you haven't watched it yet, you may want to skip this post, and the comment section as well, if you don't want your anticipation spoiled, because some shit went down last night that I'd like to get your thoughts on - especially those who are die-hard fans of not only the series, but the source material as well.

Tonight I got into a conversation with some friends about old TV shows from the past that we really liked and I bought up A Man Called Hawk. You remember him don't you? A brother so cool that he could literally drive a car at night with tinted windows with shades on. Now THAT'S one bad mutha'.

Soooo... as noted in a post on Friday, it was a black cinema weekend on the Lifetime channel here in the USA, with 2 original films making their world premieres, headlining the network's Saturday and Sunday primetime schedule: the ripped from the headlines drama Abducted: The Carlina White Story, which aired on Saturday, October 6, at 8/7c; and the all-black Steel Magnolias remake (which aired on Sunday, October 7, at 9/8c).

Like you, I watched the first two episodes of Season Two of 'Scandal'. The production values are higher. The style of the show is handled much better. Olivia Pope, at least, in the first episode, felt stronger. She was making decisions and leading the charge.

Yesterday's news that Oprah Winfrey's OWN Network had entered into a partnership with Tyler Perry to bring scripted series to the network, was met with a lot of disconcerted voices around the web. To be sure, there was some support. But it seemed the loudest voices were the dissenters.
