Soooo... as noted in a post on Friday, it was a black cinema weekend on the Lifetime channel here in the USA, with 2 original films making their world premieres, headlining the network's Saturday and Sunday primetime schedule: the ripped from the headlines drama Abducted: The Carlina White Story, which aired on Saturday, October 6, at 8/7c; and the all-black Steel Magnolias remake (which aired on Sunday, October 7, at 9/8c).

Like you, I watched the first two episodes of Season Two of 'Scandal'. The production values are higher. The style of the show is handled much better. Olivia Pope, at least, in the first episode, felt stronger. She was making decisions and leading the charge.

Last month, dance choreographer and television producer Debbie Allen took to her Twitter account with a passionate plea. It was a call for the return of her popular late 80s, early 90s sitcom A Different World. Allen had just celebrated the 25th anniversary of the spinoff, originally conceived of as a vehicle for Cosby Show star Lisa Bonet, who later left the show after its first season. Despite Bonet’s departure, A Different World lived on for six seasons, serving as a fresh window into a facet of the black experience that had not been explored on American television before - the black collegiate experience.

With new primetime TV series debuting this fall, and old shows returning, who has the time to watch them all? I have my old favorites as well as a busy life, and deciding to watch something new means that a show must look really interesting to me, based on marketing materials, and when I do eventually tune in, engages me, almost immediately.
