So here's a lesson on how cutthroat the television business is. As you know, Ann Curry, the 15 year veteran of The Today Show and the program's official co-host with Matt Lauer since June 2011, got a shiv in the back by NBC this week.

Officially because of slumping ratings (though the show is still No.1 in the mornings), Curry was dumped as co-host and given the job as an international roving correspondent for NBC News.

Anyone who saw her tearful and emotional farewell speech Thursday knows how devastated she was by the turn of events, and still in a fog about how everything went so wrong so fast. (And she also knows how to respond if you check her body language HERE when she gets a kiss from Lauer)

Of course the slump in the ratings could have in no way been Lauer's fault. In the network's eyes nothing is ever his fault. He could burn down Rockfeller Center and they'll blame Al Roker.

But for weeks, the talk was that the real reason why Curry was removed was because Lauer simply didn't like her. News reports said that, behind the scenes, when Lauer negotiated his new contract with NBC for the Today Show this spring (bumping his yearly salary from $17 million a year to $25 million a year) one absolute provision was that Curry would be replaced.

In Curry's place as co-host for the all important 7-9AM slot will be Savannah Guthrie who's been called "blander than oatmeal", but who, no doubt, is the right person to perform her basic requirements for the job. That is, to always smile, look at Lauer in awe and nod approvingly at whatever he says.

Guthrie previously co-hosted the 9AM third hour of Today with Roker. But now that she's been officially moved up, who will take her place?

Well, according to sources, that someone is MSNBC's Tamron Hall, who also occasionally appears on the Today Show as a substitute news anchor, and who's come a long way from her early days as a local Fox anchor in Chicago.

Reports are that she is currently in negotiations with the network to become the co-host of the 9AM slot with Roker, and she will also continue doing her daily afternoon MSNBC show NewsNation.

But the great thing about doing the Today Show gig is that she'll be working with Roker and not have to worry about getting on Lauer's bad side.

The black and gold necklace Tamaron was wearing today. May 1st. She's wearing it with black and white dress. She's gorgeous.

Who made the red dress she was wearing today Mar 28?

Granted Lauer has and edge, however Curry was/is a little emotionally excessive in her interviews. All this seems to be forgotten when the Lauer roast started. His biggest problem is that he's getting older and so is Curry i. e. Leno getting the same treatment.

I love Tamron Hall because she's always cheerful, bright, and through all career and News reporting exposure she always knows when to smile or laugh. Great personality for co-host.

Tamron Hall is the best for the job! I hope in the near future, Tamron take Savannah's place. Savannah is not connecting with the audience. Tamron should have been the replacement for Ann anyway. Tamron is beautiful, talented, and has what it takes. Keep looking over Tamron and your ratings will cont. to decline. Go Tamron!!!

  • DALLASGUY | March 15, 2013 4:13 PM

Yes, please, please keep Tamron Hall on. I haven't watched the Today Show for years (maybe decades), especially since Charley Rose joined the CBS crew. While changing channels, I happened to see Tamron, and just could not change the channel while Tamron was on. She's beautiful, talented, classy and a talented reporter, and beautiful (Did I already mention that?). If she's there, I'm a Today fan. Sorry, Charley.

ann curry is one of the best journalists on the air, and I enjoyed her interviews so much more than katie couric's. I enjoyn matt lauer and think his interviews are good however my opinion nof him has changed since the departure of ann curry. I do think that he is overpaid and why aren't the female journalists on the today show making as much of a salary as he is. natalie morales is also a favorite as is savannah tamryn and of course al.

Interesting how all the hate flowing towards Tamron, she is beautiful and does her job well. Remember she's on tv and not the radio

  • LR | July 6, 2012 9:32 PMReply

Oh, I get it. Just read she has breast implants. Guess she is more interested in being sexy than reporting the news.

  • LR | July 6, 2012 9:13 PMReply

Tamron Hall's appearance is a turn-off on the today show. Does she have to show cleavage and/or be poured into her dress? I turn the channel everytime she is on.

  • Um No | April 11, 2013 2:40 PM

MM...You sound like a jealous bitch.

  • mm | April 11, 2013 2:37 PM

Amen...sick of her...if only she was as "cute" and sexy as she thinks she is or wants to be???? Turn the channel when she is on. Nothing wholesome about her.

  • sergio | March 15, 2013 4:34 PM

I couldn't help it but just had to respond that I LOVE the way she "pours" into her dress speaking as the sexist pig man that i am

This entire situation with Ann was corporate politics in its purest form. Too many questions:

    1. What did Matt hate so much about Ann? If they couldn't give a valid reason for his dislike of her, then there is not a valid reason for it.

    2. How did Savannah get promoted before Natalie Morales, Hota Kotb, Lester Holt, and so many other capable journalists?

    3. Why did it always seem as if Ann was nervous (as if she was being harassed or shaken down behind the scenes)?

    4. What does Matt Lauer do that makes him worth $25 million a year for all of 6 hours a day of work (2-3 hours on camera + 2-3 hours of pre-show prep and post-show debrief)?

    5. Word on the street was that Matt was threatening to leave "The Today Show" to launch a daytime talk show. Why didn't NBC just let him leave? NBC overestimates Matt's popularity. God doesn't like ugly, and he isn't too fond of cute.

    6. Who on NBC's management and PR staff is so stupid that they allowed this situation to play out so messy and so publicly? I always hate when everyone in the world knows that someone will be fired before they know themselves.

    7. Why does NBC believe in Matt Lauer so much? I like Brian Williams myself.

    1. I noticed that Yahoo! states that Savannah has been a legal analyst for NBC since 2007. Yahoo, you aren't slick. I have been watching "The Today Show" daily for almost the entire last 2 years, and Savannah JUST GOT THERE. There are tons of analysts behind the scenes that have been with NBC for years, I am sure. They want to gloss over the fact that Savannah just walked into the door and was handed a job. For a minute it looked like Sarah in the 4th hour with Kathie Lee and Hoda was about to get a promotion. I noticed she had an increased workload also.

    2. Ann will be fine. I have heard her beautiful voice in voice overs on the Food Network, etc. for years, so she still has side gigs.

    3. I am happy for Tamron, but I hope that she saves her money because I don't think that NBC cares for beautiful, kind, talented, classy women of color.

Curious to know what Laurel does to command $25 million. Guess he could not stand the competition Curry carries. Well, his days are numbered as well as those who approved & followed thru w/ contract.

    Congratulations, Tamron!

  • Nadine | July 3, 2012 1:43 PMReply

If NBC knew what it was doing, they'd pair her with Lauer. They're setting her up for a slow climb with Roker when TODAY would get a much larger boost from a Tamron/Lauer pairing. Loved Curry but hated Lauer and the Today Show... wishing her the best. BTW - The CBS This Morning with Charlie Rose and Gayle King is soooooo much better than Today or GMA... more serious stories/less fluff.

I bet Lisa Ling (The View) could tell Ann Curry PLENTY about escaping out the window with your sanity intact when the crazy door slams shut. Don't even look back, Ann!

Matt Lauer is a sleazy guy he's screwing the new woman who is going to be his new co host. In fact, Lauer and NBC are to blame for getting rid of Ann Curry. Curry was the scapegoat but don't cry for Ann she's still getting $10 million dollars from NBC and she still has a job. NBC wanted Ann out of the way prior to the Olympics. Ann got fired due to the tired racism and sexism of American television news industry. You see Ann is in her fifties and she's also part Asian so NBC felt they needed a younger and of course whiter female co host to work with Matt Lauer. If only people were paying attention usually women who work with Matt Lauer have to sleep with him first prior to getting the job.

That man can wear the shit out of a gray suit, though. Matter of fact, that's all he owns.

  • Bondgirl | June 29, 2012 6:28 PMReply

I wish they would put Tamron with Lauer. She's plenty capable, and is so affable. Savannah is wooden and boring. Making her co-anchor is a huge mistake, and she will be out soon too.

  • Adam Scott Thompson | June 29, 2012 6:23 PMReply

I'm jealous of her man. lol

  • Mary | June 29, 2012 6:09 PMReply

Ann Curry should never have been promoted in the first place. She's a complete robot. Her interviews were universally awkward and she clearly couldn't care less about pop culture - which unfortunately for her - is a big part of The Today Show. If Matt Lauer had anything to do with her removal, good for him.

  • maurice emel | June 29, 2012 6:04 PMReply

The only reason i watched fox news when i was a teenager was because of tamron hall, at 32 it'll be the only reason i watch the Today show at 9am, lol

  • eshowoman | June 29, 2012 6:01 PMReply

Today Show with two black anchors? Interesting....

  • MMT | June 29, 2012 5:56 PMReply

Anne Curry should never have been promoted to co-host. She can read the news just fine, but it was painful to watch her inverview people or give teasers for upcoming segments. Even with cue cards, she stumbled over her words. She was my least favorite personality on Today.

  • Neil | June 29, 2012 10:43 PM

That is your perspective. I guess I am not there target audience as Ann Curry was the only thing that could get me to watch such TV pablum. Still, it is fitting as I thought she was too good for shows like that and she on the other hand thought it was dream job. My perspective

  • Nichole Carter | June 29, 2012 5:33 PMReply

    I hope not.

  • Moionfire | July 3, 2012 3:03 PM

Why?? What is wrong with Tamron Hall??
