Confirming what Cynthia announced yesterday, plus details on plot and casting...

TBS has greenlit a third Tyler Perry-created and produced sitcom series (House of Payne and Meet the Browns are the current 2), ordering 10 episodes of For Better Or Worse, as the series will be called.

Based on TP's Why Did I Get Married? films (at first plays), For Better Or Worse (that's Tyler Perry's For Better Or Worse) will follow "the ups-and-downs of married life for Marcus and Angela, characters who originated in the features Why Did I Get Married and Why Did I Get Married Too?"

In the films, the pair was played by Michael Jai White and Tasha Smith, and, as Deadline reports, both actors will also star in the upcoming TV series!! Didn't see that coming... especially the Michael Jai White reprisal.

Production is scheduled to being this summer at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta.

Are you excited? :D

TP is sticking to the formula that he knows: wish we can have some more directors to come out and give us more tv show options:

Wow, another angry, castrating black woman on TV every week!!! I will watch it a much as I watch his other shows which means never.

The absolute worse couple of the WDIGM movies and she was soooo annoying.

This says Keesha Sharp might be a possible character in the show. Love her.

Never saw the second WDIGM. Didn't have the strength, patience, etc. I can just barely tolerate Perry movies (or bad features or features that are seemingly good [look good] but somewhere with direction and the script and the 'acting' take a huge turn for the worse...)

I watched Atlas Shrugged yesterday and almost got up and left about 40 minutes into it. :(

If they must and as it appears, they must why not make it a "single camera comedy" like 'The Office' and 'Modern Family'? In front of a studio audience or canned laughter...whatever.

I too am surprised that Michael Jai White signed on. It seemed like his film career was on the verge of getting bigger.

I looove Tasha Smith! And Michael Jai White is great!
But what I find overly annoying is how over-the-top they create all her characters to be. Especially in the 'ghetto' areana. And as we've seen, this is all she's been doing in Tyler Perry's shows & movies.
She's an awesome actress -- I just pray they take her down a couple of notches for the show.
Like I've said before, I'll tune in.

  • Cherish | April 27, 2011 2:41 AMReply

    Oh goody.

So we get to tune every week to watch Tasha Smith yell and berate her husband while he either takes it or throws her on the bed to show who is da man?

Black on Black love at its finest. Jut what we need.

Tasha was spot on funny in the movie! So I'm guessing that's why they picked them as the couple.

  • Adam Scott Thompson | April 26, 2011 12:12 PMReply

Another "certified" hit from the Prime Minister of Coonistan!

  • Asya | April 26, 2011 11:58 AMReply

NO! They're cutting HOP for an Angela and Marcus show?!? UGH!! Not excited about this at all.

  • Lola | April 26, 2011 11:29 AMReply

Even the choice to center around this series shows that its gonna be about superficial stuff and no depth... This couple was my least favorite. They didn't seem to grow much.

  • rollercoaster | April 26, 2011 10:30 AMReply

Not really. If it was Jill Scott's marriage, maybe. But this relationship has no nuance to it. It's just aggression 24/7.
