Black Jesus

And if it didn't, it certainly wouldn't be an Aaron McGruder series, would it?

Adult Swim has announced their new half-hour live-action scripted comedy "Black Jesus" from writer/producer, Aaron McGruder ("The Boondocks"), will premiere on Thursday, August 7th at 11pm (ET/PT).

The series finds Jesus living in present day Compton, CA on a daily mission to spread love and kindness throughout the neighborhood, with the help of his small but loyal group of downtrodden followers.

The series stars newcomer Gerald "Slink" Johnson as "Black Jesus."

Charlie Murphy, Corey Holcomb, John Witherspoon, Kali Hawk, Andra Fuller, Antwon Tanner, Andrew Bachelor, Angela Gibbs, and Valenzia Algarin round out the starring cast.

McGruder is executive producer through his 5 Mutts Productions, along with director Mike Clattenburg, LEG's Norman Aladjem, John Bravakis and Stu Schreiberg, with Robert Wise and Meghann Collin.

Gal: 6:7 say's Do not be deceived, God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, that he will reap.
Jude 1:10, But these speak of whatever they do not know; and whatever they know naturally like brute beasts in these things they corrupt themselves. 11-Woe to them! For they have gone in the way of Cain, have run greedily in the error of Balaam for profit, and perished in the rebellion of Korah. 14-"Behold, The Lord comes with ten thousands of His saints, to execute judgment on all, to convict all who are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have committed in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him."
So, have I say more? It is not good to fall into the hands of an angry God! For your sakes, do not allow these series be televised. Of course, I will not be watching, nor none of my family members. There is much reverence and respect for The Lord who created you and this earth.

You can quote all the imaginary "scriptures" you want, but most people don't believe in that stuff anymore, especially not in a literal sense. All the old religions fell over time, people don't believe in Zeus or Roman Gods anymore and eventually Christianity will fade out and science will reign supreme. Anyways I will watch Black Jesus, hopefully it will be good, and if it mocks the utter foolishness of religion then that would be even better. Out..

Response to QB: Psalms 53:1 The Fool has said in his heart, "there is no God". They are corrupt, and have done abominable iniquity; there is none who does good.
Proverbs 1:7 The Fear of The Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom & instruction.

  • QB | August 7, 2014 9:16 PM

Lol.. c'mon son.. there is no "God".

  • Christina | July 23, 2014 10:53 PMReply

Jesus has already been defaced and mocked enough... BLACK JESUS? Really do you not know that Jesus was black? Nothing like the pictures they portray him to be. His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and His eyes like a flame of fire; His feet were like fine brass, as if refined in a furnace, and His voice as the sound of many waters" Rev 1: 13-15...... Who has hair like wool. I know I do and I am black..... WHEN WILL YOU WAKE UP? HOPEFULLY, BEFORE HELL. I am disgusted by this.

    Foolishness, Garbage, Shameful

Much like the Boondocks, Black Jesus only serves as the obvious means (Black exploitation) to an apparent end (profit). Given that the culprit is Black only facilitates the process. Since Boondocks was well received by many Blacks, young McGruder (and others) took advantage of the opportunity to further Black exploitation with the “Black Jesus” creation. WOW! How many of us did not see that coming!

Clearly, the issue is not whether you believe in Jesus, whether Jesus existed (or not) or whether he was Black—it’s all economics--the law of supply and demand. So the bottom-line is that young McGruder is just following the exploitative strategic plan mapped out by others. Seriously, once the laughter wears off, the chronic plight of many Blacks still remain. So much for giving back.

For once, I would like to see more Blacks not fall into the proverbial trap of being the tail and not the head—especially for profit! Any takers???

    You dumb.
Everything is on TV to make money.
He's not exploiting blacks, he's giving them jobs. And making fun of one of the biggest tools if subjugation, religion.

  • delynn | July 21, 2014 9:43 AMReply

this is the very last thing america needs right now. Absolutely horrific. Christians do not want to see this. So, I suppose this show is basically for atheists & agnostics. Right? Perfect! I'm certain Jesus will be thrilled. I cannot imagine believe anyone, other than the 4 percent of non-believers in America would consider even wanting this to be aired. America would doesn't have much of a backbone left. Interesting. Sad.

  • CareyCarey | July 21, 2014 10:47 PM

JMac, I am with you. Christians, for the most part, come in all flavors. There are "Christians" who go to church as a means to dressing to impress. There are others who go simply seeking entertainment (from the choir or gossip hounds). And there are those seeking guidance and wisdom.

And each churches doctrines are different. There are those who focus on "prosperity". I am sure you know what that means. The white TV evangelist Peter Popoff comes to mind. Then of course there are thousands of churches in every state that you and I have spoke of (not mega-churches. They are in the minority).

But a basic truth that we need not forget, is if everyone had arrived, there would be no need for churches. And, as Dick Gregory once said, "I wouldn't know what a Christian looks like until they told me they were one".

All that to say, many "Christians" laugh at themselves. Tyler Perry's success will attest to that. Also, it should be noted that there are "Christian" comedians who make a nice living bouncing jokes off the heads of "Christians".

  • JMac | July 21, 2014 9:36 PM

Pretty sure this series wasn't created for Christians - except those with a sense of humor and sense of reality. I would think most black Christians would watch since we all are aware (or should be aware) of how Christianity was violently forced on our ancestors to the point that any extreme religious dedication to the point of blindness and obstinancy would be regarded as pure idiocy.

Sorry to say that one of the bits that clinched my decision to tune in was the black lady telling Jesus they'll be violence with her if she doesn't get the things he promised - reminds me of a lot of "Christian" ladies and I can completely see them saying something like that if Jesus did reappear (in some alternate, fantastical reality). If anything I'm sure there will be moments where those in the faith will see the mirror reflection from this show and adjust themselves accordingly... at least a little bit. However, they'd need to open themselves to the experience.

  • Dirk | July 21, 2014 10:17 AM

I think this is exactly what America needs to see. If Jesus came back today, his own Christians would be the one insisting he is a threat to society and needs to be put in a mental ward for the safety of himself and others. His own Christians would be the ones ensuring he lived in project housing as well. It's sad because it's true.

  • JJ | July 21, 2014 8:20 AMReply

Pure, unfunny trash. Hope it fails miserably.

  • s | July 20, 2014 10:18 AMReply

"Jesus is white, goddamit" lol What did I just watch?!

  • VannDigital.com | July 19, 2014 3:27 PMReply

i swear they put anything on TV nowadays...

  • KEN | July 19, 2014 12:48 PMReply

WWBJD? This is going to be just what the doctor ordered. Maybe it will wake up some of these sleeping Christians. A fake black Jesus is no worse than the fake white Jesus you know and love. White Jesus can go kick rocks! This Christian superstition is ripe for the mocking.

  • Ol'Skool | July 20, 2014 7:43 PM

    Effects public policy?! Whose policy?

Snakebreath, FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND American's ( 500,000!) died in the Civil War! And by the way, millions of blacks were lost at sea during the "middle passage". So, tell me - with your smart rational thinking a$$ - what "religions" were behind those historical incidents?

Wait, don't tell me, I'll tell you... it's a thang called HATRED. Some people religiously hate and kill those who they seek to oppress and conquer.

That's the F'n point you seem to be running from.

  • sharksbreath | July 20, 2014 7:07 PM

The point is your religions get people killed and effects public policy.

Look at Israel and Gaza. These people are dying over a piece of land. Israel should be turned into a nuclear waste site. Come back in 2000 years and see if you idiots can live together.

The Iraq war was started because Bush thought he was doing God''s work. Hitler was a Christian.

Simple and plain. Religions get people killed. Rational thought doesn't.

    That's the F'n point.

  • Ol Skool | July 19, 2014 3:06 PM

And your problem is exactly, WHAT? My point? What business is it of yours how athiest, agnostics, Christians, Muslums or Jews alike, conduct their buisness?

Are you somehow intimated by those who have a belief? If not, again, what's the purpose of your comment?

Btw, as a sidebar, do you know the imagees you're projecting? Well, one starts with an "I", the other is two words starting with "Y" & "D".

  • Man-Over-Bored | July 18, 2014 11:50 PMReply

I find this entire show blasphemous toward my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! (Just kidding. Christianity and the Bible are absurd, and non-existent Jesus deserves to be mocked! If this show helps to universally belittle Jesus and thus breed more Atheists--especially among religiously-gullible African Americans--more power to it and its creator, Aaron McGruder!)

  • Negs4Sale | July 19, 2014 1:13 AM

Ninja, please! I'm not the biggest believer myself, but this looks like unfunny, coonified trash, and pushing your sloppy and tired atheist agenda won't change that. Please sit. In fact, have a couple of seats.

Creative genius need their time to create such a satirical, thought provoking, insightful Television series. I wish this series was on one of the Broadcast Networks, but that would limit the genius of Mr. McGruder. I will certainly tune in to support Mr. McGruder in his new Television series.

Cut off the head and the body will follow. AND... don't start no mess... there won't be none. So STOP IT!

I'm suggesting that... well... it seems that... well... it appears to me the writer of this post is instagating mess. I mean, this new series is witty, funny, smart. clever and very entertaining... so whose feathers are in for a ruffling?

Oh, I get it, the writer's agnostic nature forces him to do what agnostics live a die for... ruffle the feather of church folks.

Yes sir, stirring the pot here aren't you buddy?
