As we already know, CBS has set Arsenio Hall's return to late night TV, for September 92013, via CBS TV Distribution.

We can now add that the show will air during the 10pm to 11pm nightly time-slot (he's obviously not going to be competing with current late-night hosts; David Letterman is CBS' late night talk show king right now), in addition to the fact that it's now sold in 95% of the country.

So, Scandal fans, you know what this means, right? On Thursday nights, at 10pm, you just might have a challenger on your hands, obviously depending on how popular Arsenio's return is. But I guess you could DVR one to watch later, while watching the other one live, when it broadcasts.

Oh, and of course it'll be called The Arsenio Hall Show.

Details via press release from CBS Television Distribution below...

LOS ANGELES - January 22, 2013 - CBS Television Distribution has sold THE ARSENIO HALL SHOW in 95% of the country, it was announced today by Joe DiSalvo, President of Sales at CTD.

The new late-night syndicated talk show will debut on September 9, 2013, anchored by the Tribune Broadcasting station group, which has stations in 7 of the top 10 markets.

In addition to the Tribune Broadcasting, stations from CBS Television, Local TV, Sinclair Broadcasting, LIN Television Stations, Belo Corp., Cox Enterprises, Media General, Post-Newsweek Stations, Newport Television, Raycom Media, The Grant Group and Sunbeam Television have also picked up the show.

THE ARSENIO HALL SHOW will air mostly in 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. time slots across the country.

Hall, who recently won the latest edition of NBC's "Celebrity Apprentice," is best known for hosting the Emmy Award-winning "The Arsenio Hall Show," a late-night syndicated talk show produced by Paramount Domestic Television (now CTD), which ran from 1989 to 1994. The show's place in pop culture history was cemented in June 1992 when then-presidential candidate Bill Clinton appeared on the show and played "Heartbreak Hotel" on the saxophone.

THE ARSENIO HALL SHOW is produced by CBS Television Distribution, in association with Arsenio Hall Communications Ltd. and Octagon Entertainment Productions. Arsenio Hall is executive producer. John Ferriter is executive producer.

Hey ALM, I understand this show will not be on the CBS network it will be only on other stations live in syndication. Unless a few stations carry it taped delayed at late night. It will only be Distributed by CBS TV. If only NBC did that with the Jay Leno Show a while back when it was on at 10pm it might have made it because syndicated shows don't need as much ratings to stay on.

Roy you are so right Sir. I'm going to miss Jay Leno. How can Nbc get rid of the man after being #1 for all these years? They should have done just that and saved all this mess. Good point sir.

ok, good to see him back

Can anybody say what the real deal with his original show being taken off the air was REALLY about?

Very interested in seeing who the show is going to be targeted towards......the first show was targeted towards a demographic that Arsenio was a part of or at least represented...He had his finger on the pulse of what was "hip"

there doesn't seem to be much space for Black entertainers, or entertainers period, of Arsenio's age in the pop mainstream now. Leno and Letterman look 190 years old when they have teeny boppers or younger stars performing music on their shows.

Very interested to see how the show is produced.
    Dog pound?
    Things that makes you hmmmmm?

getthesenets yes it's good to see him back. The show was taken off because the network wanted to punish him for bringing on Louis Farrakhan. The network warned him that if he brought him on they would fire him. He wanted to see what the man had to say.

Things that makes you go hmmmmmmm

There is a definitely a place/market for Arsenio in the current market. I was a child when his original show went off the air, and I have missed his show something fierce ever since. Think about the 28 to 48 year old crowd. That is his sweet spot. There are millions of Americans that fit into those age brackets. I hope he kept the element of the eclectic music performances, breaking of amazing new artists (i.e. Mariah Carey), and unique and one time only performances from legends (i.e. Luther Vandross RIP), that was the best part of the show.

CBS TV is distributing the Arsenio Hall Show, so I think the show may air in different markets/channels, not necessarily on the parent network, CBS. I noticed that LIN Television Stations also picked up the show--does this mean that it will air on Bounce TV? That might be interesting since LIN is over the air and looks to appeal to an African American demographic. I'm intrigued to see the actual stations on which this program will air.

Same question. Love Arsenio, glad he's back, but what about Hawaii 5 0?

  • ALM | January 22, 2013 4:27 PMReply

If he's on every night, does this mean that CBS is canceling a lot of the shows that are currently in the 10 p.m. slot?
