And while there's still no word on what exactly the plot for this sequel will be, in the Universal press release, it's stated that the entire starring cast of the first film is returning for the sequel, and hints at what the story will be.
After nearly 15 years apart, Taye Diggs (television’s Private Practice), Nia Long (Big Momma’s House), Morris Chestnut (Kick-Ass 2), Harold Perrineau (Zero Dark Thirty), Terrence Howard (Hustle & Flow), Sanaa Lathan (Contagion), Monica Calhoun (Love & Basketball), Melissa De Sousa (Miss Congeniality) and Regina Hall (Scary Movie franchise) reprise their career-launching roles in the next chapter to the film that ushered in a new era of comedy. When the college friends finally reunite over the Christmas holidays, they will discover just how easy it is for long-forgotten rivalries and romances to be ignited.
Malcolm D. Lee returns to write and direct this sequel to his directorial debut. Sean Daniel (The Mummy franchise) will produce alongside Lee for The Sean Daniel Company.
I can't say that I'm all-that interested in The Best Man 2 (I'll always prefer fresh stories, instead of recycling, revisiting or extending old ones). However, I'm definitely curious to find out what story (or stories) Lee will tell the second time around.
When we find out, so will you.
But it's officially dated for a November 15, 2013 release, so it's only a matter of time before further news on any additional or new casting and plot are revealed.
Meanwhile, up next for director Lee is Scary Movie 5 for Dimension Films.

Yes!!!!!!!! This sequel is so long overdue, but thank God that it's finally happening. The Best Man is one of my favorite movies and one of the best movies of the 90s. I'm gladd that the old cast is reprising their roles from the original

All these actresses were known in the afr am community, so did this film make them known to anglos?

Interested to see how they gel after many have seen great success. Perhaps the behind the scenes would be an even better film...

Not a sequel lover, but the first film came along at the right time in my life. Maybe the sequel will too.

Not much faith in M. Lee at this point. Given his track record, though, I suppose this was inevitable. At least he'll continue to be able to pay his kids private school fees.

I really hate when they mess with an enjoyable film and turn out an awful sequel but I quite enjoyed the first movie so I have high hopes for this one.

Hollywood's got to shoehorn Kevin Hart into this one somehow. Think Like The Best Man, maybe? Get on it, guys.
