Announced a month ago, Amazon and HBO inked an exclusive licensing deal that was to bring some of HBO’s original content to Amazon’s $99-per-year Prime subscription service, with the first shows set to hit Prime on May 21.
Well, it's May 21, and if you're an Amazon Prime member like I am, you've likely already seen the below notification from the company today, which prompted you to browse through what HBO original series are available to watch currently.
There's a lot to start with, like: every season of The Sopranos, The Wire, Treme, Deadwood, Rome and Six Feet Under, as well as Eastbound & Down, Enlightened, Flight of the Conchords, Oz, Big Love, and others.
There are also miniseries, including Angels in America, Mildred Pierce, Band of Brothers, John Adams, The Pacific and Parade’s End.
And feature films (fiction and non-fiction) like When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts, You Don't Know Jack, Game Change, Too Big To Fail, Hemingway & Gellhorn, The Sunset Limited and more.
You'll also find select seasons of current series such as Boardwalk Empire and True Blood, and original comedy specials from Lewis Black, Ellen DeGeneres, Louis CK and Bill Maher, to name a few.
There's a lot more, although nothing current like the Game of Thrones franchise. Sorry. But this is just the beginning, so there'll be more titles to come down the road. Amazon did previously say that earlier seasons of HBO shows like Girls, The Newsroom and Veep will roll out “over the course of the multi-year agreement.”
So visit the HBO Collection page on Amazon.com HERE, and see what this new deal has to offer starting today. You may find something you haven't seen yet, and may be tempted to sign up, if you aren't already an Amazon Prime subscriber.
Competition between Amazon and Netflix (the two streaming video giants) has proven to be good for the consumer thus far, as both platforms spend chunks of cash to retain exclusive rights to some of your favorite content, as well as to produce original series.
Here's the message from Amazon chief Jeff Bezos.
