I'm probably in the minority when I say that The Dark Knight Rises may be the least interesting and messiest of the Christopher Nolan trilogy of films; I especially didn't care for the unrelenting soundtrack that just seemed to overwhelm scenes; as I watched the film, I cherished those few moments of quiet, in which human voices were all my ears had to tolerate.

But I'm also a sucka for information, and always appreciate behind-the-scenes reveals that take the viewer through the artist's process... like this one on the sound and music of The Dark Knight Rises.

Courtesy of the SoundsWorks Collection (a Vimeo channel I subscribe to and recommend), in the 10-minute video below, the folks at the SoundWorks Collection were given exclusive access to chat with the sound and music team that worked on The Dark Knight Rises (including composer Hans Zimmer, and supervising sound editor and sound designer Richard King).

This is a treat. While I totally agree with you that the soundtrack were pounding in my head, the actual score is quite good. Not as fulfilling as TDK - or iconic like Joker's theme - but it weaves the Batman/Rise themes with Bane's fascism. Nolan and his editing team took a sledgehammer to many a ear: which is why the first Batman-Bane fight stood out so much. No score at all.
