The veteran stage and screen actress has appeared in productions such as The Love Boat, One Life To Live, Uncle Tom's Cabin, A Different World, Blossom, The Cosby Show, Once Upon A Time When We Were Colored, Touched By An Angel, Everybody Hates Chris, A Raisin In The Sun, Psych, Just Wright and For Colored Girls. In 2004, she became the first African-American actress to win the Tony Award for "Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play," for her role in the revival of A Raisin in the Sun.
