Tonight: ESPN Films & espnW’s Nine for IX Series Continues With 'Swoopes' (July 30)

ESPN Films and espnW’s Nine for IX series continues with Swoopes, the 5th film in the Line-Up, tonight, July 30, at 8pm.

Directed by Hannah StormSwoopes follows Sheryl Swoopes, previously famously labeled as the female Michael Jordan, winning a national championship with Texas Tech, three Olympic gold medals, three MVP awards and four consecutive championships with the Houston Comets of the WNBA, the league she helped start. She even had a Nike shoe named after her, the Air Swoopes. Off the court, she has had a life full of transitions. She gave birth to her son, Jordan, during the inaugural season of the WNBA. Later, she divorced her high school sweetheart and became the highest-profile athlete in her sport to acknowledge she was gay. She has struggled with love, money and personal identity.

The remaining films in the Nine for IX series on ESPN will air 8 p.m. ET as follows:

Films that have already aired in the series are Venus Vs., Pat XO. and Let Them Wear Towels.

All Nine for IX films will be available for purchase on iTunes and Amazon the day following air. A collectible DVD gift set with all films will also be available on October 15, 2013.

    I watched both Pat XO and Swoopes. The Swoopes doc was excellent! It took me back to '97, as a h.s. ball player. This doc brought tears to my eyes. It's a must see.

    Wow, good to heard that. Nine for IX is the title for a series of documentary films airing on ESPN, celebrating the 40th anniversary of Title IX. This is a adventurous and beautiful story of nine stories about women in sports to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Title IX. Thanks for sharing.
