Nikyatu Jusu - the first Shadow And Act Black Filmmaker Challenge winner, who also claimed her rightful spot on the Shadow And Act Black Filmmakers To Watch list, lists her 5 favorite films. It's a few months old, but I'm only just finding out about it *ahem.*
Ya know, I really dig this idea, and wish I'd thought of it. Instead, thanks to the folks at XHIBIT P for creating it and planting the seed :) I'd like to do more of these with other black filmmakers (h/t AIAC):

I love this series! Still can't believe she doesn't like classic movies (not even Stormy Weather or All About Eve??), but to each his own right?
I wish she would make African Booty Scratcher into a feature one day.

Can definitely see her favorites' influence in her work...or in "Black Swan Theory", the one film by her that I have seen. Very cool for sharing.

Yeah I'm with Neziah; I won't hold it against her that she doesn't like old movies because her list was pretty good. However I do have a make a correction. In "Fish Tank", (SPOILER ALERT) the relationship between the daughter and the mom's boyfriend IS consummated and the fall-out is what really brings this film together for me.
I would definitely love to see more of these as well!

Hmm. Interesting choices.
Old Boy, Roshamon would have 2 be one of my favs too & a few Spike Lee joints!
Nikyatu is hella talented I wish her the best of luck in her growing film career.

Although I didn't care for the part when she said, "I don't like old movies", I appreciated the honesty. Good movies anyway, and she seems like a really nice girl. I wish her the best of luck in her career.
