O.K. so here we go again. Here's another trailer for an upcoming straight-to-DVD release (Sept 20) of a stage play. Though it's a short trailer, there's no need to go into the plot. The trailer pretty much explains itself.

It's called The Bachelor Party and stars Lamann Rucker who I admit I had to go to imdb.com to find out who he is. Surprisingly, the site said that his next film role will be playing Paul Robseon in an upcoming bio-pic. Really? PAUL ROBESON? This guy is playing PAUL ROBESON? No that can't be... can it?

And it co-stars Essence Atkins who starred in the immortal film N-Secure and who used to be on that sit-com Half and Half; which reminds me, whatever happened to that other actress who played her half-sister on the show?

I also just realized that Rucker was also in N-Secure, but I don't remember him. I just remember Cordell Moore, that guy who looked like the identical twin brother of the guy who played Professor Olgevee from The Parkers.

The big surprises in Bachelor Party however are that there seems to be no religious messages in this play and there's no Vivica A. Foxx in it either. How did she miss being in this?

*** Two ghosts meet in a land called SHADOW & ACT***

    Burt Bacharach & Michael Jackson

Michael: “Burt, what are you doing here?”

Burt: “I was going to ask you the same thang. I’m looking for a guy name Sergio. Somebody said he was crying “Help” and a riot broke out.

Michael: “No Burt, I heard he was discussion the movie “ The Help” and a bunch of black folks got mad.

Burt: Well, that could be right. All I know is I heard the words “white folks” and “help” and somehow I found myself in this S & A post. And since I’m here, I thought it was time to sing my favorite song “What The World Needs Now Is Love Sweet Love, it‘s the only thing that‘s there‘s just to little of”

Michael: “Listen Burt, you gotta be out of your damn mind if you think these angry black folks are going to sit around holding hands while you sing the white version of “We Shall Overcome” . You may have pimped the panties off Dionne Warrick but fly away.... get yo dumb as out of here.

Burt: Ooooh, that’s how we’re gonna do this - huh - Mr. Black or White?

Michael: “See, that’s what’s wrong with some white folks, they don’t listen to the whole story and always want to do it their way. The song said, “it didn’t matter if you’re black OR white”, meaning we’ve heard that song before - sung by white folks - and we always get screwed in the end. So get yo pale ass out of here.

    ***Sergio appears from nowhere***

Sergio: WTF is going on down here? Maybe I shouldn’t ask, but this post is about The Bachelor Party, Lamann Rucker, PAUL ROBESON, Half and Half
and Vivica A. Foxx, or some shit like that?

Michael Jackson: “HEE HEE, I said you wanna be startin' somethin', you got to be startin' somethin', I said you wanna be startin' somethin'. You got to be startin' somethin'
It's too high to get over, too low to get under, and we're stuck in the middle (in blog land).
And the pain is thunder, it's too high to get over, too low to get under, we're stuck in the middle.

Sergio: OH NO, not the glove! **Sergio is crying and pleading for his life**

Micheal: Oh no my ass, You walk around this town with your head all up in the sky, and I don't know what's going happen to you baby, but LETS DANCE, let's shout (shout)
SHAKE YOUR BODY DOWN TO THE GROUND, let's dance, let's shout (SHOUT), shake you body down to the ground, let's dance, let's shout (SHOUT), shake you body down to the ground!

*** While Sergio was bumping it off the floor like it was 1909 (he’s old) a crowd in THE LAND OF SHADOW & ACT, heard the noise and came a runnin’ ***

JMac: “I know this has nothing to do with this post but I just couldn’t help it. Why is Sergio and Burt Bacharach doing the bump with no clothes on? :D

Lynn: “Yeah, what was that?? I’m sorry, I understand and know it is hard out there to “make it ” as an actor/writer but c’mon Sergio, this?

Dread Thomas: “I think it’s time for Sergio to go. That’s all we ever see from you; slick talk and sloppy work. At least move you feet and your ass like you feel the beat.

Clara: “I swear sometimes I can’t stand black folks”

BluTopaz: I saw this coming. His intuition and level-headed vibe flummoxed even him, this was great to watch esp. since not many characters stepped to him like that.

Reg: “Is this serious Sergio? Seriously. We’re bumping and grinding and equating maids with serial killers now? And why are we still asking these questions? S&A is where i come for more forward-thinking type of articles not this. I’m looking for the P-FUNK. You know, that real shit”

Cherish: “Wow Sergio, I’m impressed. That takes guts, but more importantly, smarts. You have to be intelligent to pull something like that off”

JMac: “Wait a minute, where did that Dread Scott look-a-like run off to? Sergio doesn’t need to go anywhere. Look back at all the posts on this site and which ones have the most responses. Yeah, that right, so go back to slavery Mr Dread “wannabe’ Scott. And get it Sergio! Get those clicks and move those hips, you breaking it DOWN my brotha!!”

Carla: “This has been on my chest for a long time. So now I’m just going to say it.
Shadow and Act is the blog I love to hate. The only reason I follow you guys is because of some messed up psychosis I must have that causes me to I like being annoyed by you”

Monique: “BIT*H!!!??? No you didn’t! Well thanks for reading…I guess?

Laura: “Monique, at least she’s being honest. And for that I could never call her a hater. But goddamn, I sho wouldn’t turn my back around her, or let man get anywhere near her. She snapped like that woman in the Exorcist. Shiiiiit, now I know what the O-Jays were talking about... “they smile in your face and all the time they want to take your place, the backstabbers”

Sergio: “Y’all got this all wrong. Where just exactly do I say in my post that I thought personally that Davis’ role in The Help is degrading? I don’t. My post was the challenge the idea of what is or what isn’t a “negative” role. But if it makes yawl feel better to think I’m uppity kneegrow. O.K, but I’m still gonna party like it’s 1909.

Jug: “100% agree Sergio. I forgot you’re the party starter :-P LOL”

Ourhistorian: “Oops ... I screwed up the link in my comment below. This is the correct one: http://ourstorian.wordpress.com/ , y’all come by and holla at a sistah. But I couldn’t agree more with whatever is going up in here, just click on the damn link, or put your lips together and blow.

Sergio: “Ahhh my public. How they hate me!! And Carey I stand by what i said on the podcast that half of all preachers are gay”

Carey: “Come on now Sergio, ain’t no fools up in here. Besides, from were I am standing, I don’t think the gay issue is your smartest move. Opps, but let me shut up because the blog police prefer that we talk about that “real shit”.

Michael Jackson: “Hold up, all you negroes gotta get out of here. Everybody is right if you ask them. And, y’all brought that “Help” mess over in this nice white folks neighborhood. Sergio can stay because this is his post, and we still have a little work to do, but the rest of you sons and daughters of maids, gotta get out of here. BEAT IT!

You better run, you better do what you can, don't wanna see no blood, don't be a macho man. You wanna be tough, better do what you can, so beat it, but you wanna be bad. Just beat it, beat it, beat it. But Sergio, don't stop 'til you get enough, keep on with the force don't stop, don't stop 'til YOU get enough”

*** The curtain closes on another fun day up in S & A ***

More good news about Isaiah. Heard him on the radio a few weeks back talking about his charity work and book then heard he made an appearance on Single Ladies. I hope these are signs that his career is being resurrected.

I know that has nothing to do with this post but I just couldn't help it :D

  • Lynn | July 16, 2011 8:38 AMReply

What was that?? Why can't Lamann Rucker star in something that will elevate him as an actor? I'm sorry but these Tyler Perry shows/movies and stage films will not do anything for his career. I understand and know it is hard out there to "make it " as an actor but c'mon man this?

  • Laura | July 16, 2011 5:11 AMReply

I don't understand. As cheap as technology is to come by these days, you mean you can not get some one to shoot this story cinematically. I am not critiquing the story itself. That's for another discussion. But you have actors who can bring in some money for production. I mean come on. An extra 20,000 - 50,000.

Maybe its the experience of watching the church/stage play on a celluloid/digital format. As I said, I don't get it.

  • Monique | July 16, 2011 4:00 AMReply

Well, I can't say much about this "stageplay" but I did find out Lamann's going to be in the upcoming film, The Under Sheppard opposite Isiah Washington -- I'm not really able to tell how dynamic he is an an actor by this trailer but given the synopsis of TUS, Washington may be the standout performance in that film.
