First, Michael Boatman will replace Duane Martin, who was initially cast to star alongside Sheryl Lee Ralph and Tia Mowry in the Nick at Nite family comedy pilot Instant Mom.
Creadted by Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment, and written by Warren Bell and Jessica Butler, Instant Mom (which is based on the real lives of Bell and Butler) centers on:
... a 25-year-old party girl (Mowry) who trades in Cosmos for carpools when she marries an older man with kids.
Boatman will play the character Martin was initially assigned to play - the older gentlemen with kids; Sheryl Lee Ralph will play Mowry's mother, and rounding out the starring cast will be Sydney Park, Tylen Williams and Damarr Calhoun, who'll play Martin's character's 3 kids.
Deadline gives a reason for the recasting as a result of yesterday's table read.
Ashanti will play a character named Latasha Durant, described as "an optimistic mother of three, a sexy, fun woman who knows how to keep a husband – and how to keep him in line."
Ashanti joins the series during its upcoming 7th season, which will begin shooting in mid-December.
