About That Popular 'Black Films Don't Sell ...Tyler Perry Picks Up Razzie Nominations For Worst Actor AND Worst Actress (Wait... What?)
Out with the good (the Oscars)... in with the bad (the Razzies) - celebrating, or is it shaming the worst of the year 2012, I give you the Razzie nominees announced this morning.
Of note, as the title of this post states, Tyler Perry dominates the list, picking up noms in 5 of the 9 categories, including for Worst Actress for his performance as Madea in Madea's Witness Protection, Worst Actor for his performance (not in drag) in Alex Cross and Good Deeds, Worst Director, Worst Screen Couple (himself and Madea) and Worst Ensemble Cast.
So he's nominated for Razzies for the same work he's being lauded for by the NAACP Image Awards.
And this might actually be a Razzie first (might, I can't say without researching), but he's nominated in both the Worst Actress and Worst Actor category. I didn't think that was possible.
Here's an astounding stat worth sharing... if Madea was actually played by a real woman (instead of a man in drag), whoever played her would be one of the most bankable black actresses in Hollywood right now, if not actually THE most bankable black actress in Hollywood. Funny right?
Other names of note - Eddie Murphy, practically a Razzie regular, and, in her big screen acting debut, Rihanna (Battleship).

Actually this is a great milestone for Tyler Perry. Hasn't the Madea movies been around for nearly 10 years? And he's only NOW getting Razzie nominations? His acting and directing are now being truly considered and weighed against other actors and directors in the industry. Congrats Mr. Perry. You are no longer the outsider. You are now in the big leagues and officially acknowledged by mainstream Hollywood.

******* On the plus side, it's great to see AAs were not overlooked for awards LOL ****** Tyler has so much influence on the NAACP, but I'm glad that more discerning awards are indirectly calling them out for their BS choices.
