Summit Entertainment announced today that it will open Tyler Perry's I, Alex Cross flick on October 26, 2012 - the 4th Tyler Perry movie of the year!

Really looking forward to seeing that first trailer for this; really looking forward to it; and not because I think it'll suck, or will be great; neither actually. I have absolutely no idea what to expect here, and so I'm curious. That first trailer will tell us a lot, and could very well make or break the film, because I think a lot of you are just as curious as well - especially those of us who have our doubts.

So if those doubts are in any way validated in that first trailer, I think Perry will have some problems; but if there's even a bit of promise - enough to get us to question that doubt, even just a little bit, it means there'll be a much better chance of us seeing the film when it's released.

As for his faithful fanbase... what will they make of this non-Madea, non-heavy-handed morality play?

I dunno. All I can say is that, on average his Madea films have done much better than his non-Madea films, so the odds aren't in his favor this time.

But let's wait and see how it all shakes out... we might be pleasantly surprised; and maybe even blown away!

That October 26th weekend, I Alex Cross will be going up against Dimension’s Halloween 3D and Fox’s surfing pic Of Men And Mavericks. So it could very well win that weekend at the box office.

This is not "Tyler Perry's, I Alex Cross." Tyler Perry is only the actor playing Alex Cross. He's not writing it, producing it, or directing it.

Being both an Alex Cross fan and a Tyler Perry fan could make this a win win for me. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

Read every Alex cross and watch all Tyler Perrys movies I think he will be great

Oops! I meant to say, "I am a big James Patterson fan."

  • Wallace | February 18, 2012 10:43 PMReply

I am big James Patterson, the Alex Cross series being my favorite. I don't know how I feel about Tyler Perry playing super detective. Naturally, I love Denzel Washington and even thought of Will Smith, I cannot get my head around Mr. Perry. He is too sweet looking. I hope he nails it and proves me wrong.

When I look at Tyler I don't see a man. I guess he play Madea so I have to see this movie and see has Tyler improved in his acting. I'm not big fan but I do support him. Some people say his movies suck. I say his movie has alot of his past in it and he needs to let it go. 7 of his movies and his sitcoms deal with alot of child abuse. This change is a good for him. I look forward to see Tyler write a suspense or action thriller movie. He's not a dumb man because money talks.

Alex cross is not a hard ass detective. He is a smart well dressed doctor.Morgan freeman was not a hard ass detective in his movies so why would Tyler be one. It's also not Perrys falt that they picked somebody who people will pay to see. Nothing aganist Elba but this is Hollywood. Money speaks and Perry can bring in the green. Like it or not.

  • onnie | February 8, 2012 11:32 AMReply

When I look at that face, for some reason hard ass detective doesn't come to mind... hairdresser, clothing designer maybe... As for Idris.... well, nuff said.

These books suck and we have Luther.

  • peter | February 7, 2012 10:56 PMReply

Let's do some math. Tyler has 4 movies coming out this year. Good Deeds will make around 40 million total. The marriage conseler will make aroud 50-55 million. I Alex cross and Media will make about 60 million each. All together these films could make $220 million in ticket sells alone. Add in the fact that all these films cost less then 100 million to make together. Somebody will have an outstanding year. Like him or not this man is on top of the world. Also lionsgate bought summit so I Alex Cross will be under there logo.

If Tyler pulls this off, good for him. But I would rather see Idris in this role.

  • tyson | February 7, 2012 8:08 PMReply

All 4 of his films will be a hit this year. Alex Croix already has a huge fanbase and adding Tyler Perry will just bring in more money. I will be shocked if he does not make forbs top 3 this year.

  • chris | February 7, 2012 10:49 PM

Agree. however Idris can not sell a movie. He has only lead two films so far. One being a Tyler Perry film. Summit is looking for somebody who can bring in the bills. Tyler can do that.

  • Alex | February 7, 2012 7:50 PMReply

Wow really? I had no idea he was doing this! I knew that Idris Elba was supposed to be Alex but no idea about Perry's involvement.
I, Alex Cross already has a huge fanbase as a book - and the character famously portrayed by Morgan Freeman in Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider is a fab version. This is definitley more mainstream than the Madea franchise because this is a James Patterson book - I'm talking guaranteed diverse audiences, young and old, boys and girls, black and white love this. Brilliant news.
