African Film Festival, Inc., Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute (CCCADI) and Doc Watchers present Untold Stories from Africa and the Diaspora Fall Film Series at Maysles Cinema in NYC.

You might remember our announcement of the first film in the series - Lupita Nyong'o's feature documentary In My Genes, which took place on October 1.

Here's what's coming for the remainder of the series:

- On November 12, at 7pm, a screening of Twinkl (Zétwal), a feature documentary about Martinican Robert Saint-Rose. Here's a description:

Zétwal, a documentary film, tells the story of local Martinican legend Robert Saint-Rose's attempt to propel himself to outer space through the poetry of writer Aimé Césaire (1913 - 2008). In a contraption built from metal scraps, abandoned cars, and corrugated iron, Saint-Rose's assent to space would be enabled not through fossil fuel or nuclear energy but by employing the artistic writings of the "superman" of black intellectualism, Césaire, to transcend the melancholia which beset Martinique. Saint-Rose was motived by the economic hardships resulting from departmentalization, which instigated riots on the island in the early 1970s.

- And the final film, a screening of Julie Dash's seminal Daughters Of The Dust, which I doubt needs much of an introduction around here, given how much we've written about it, and how entrenched it is in the indie black cinema historical landscape.

If you've never seen it on the big screen, and you live in NYC, here's an opportunity to do so, when it screens on December 4 at 7pm.

All film screenings will be followed by a discussion as well as a reception.
