VH1 has announced that they're planning to get into the TV movie business with a series of bio-pics about popular pop and hip-hop groups and musicians. The first one off the block will be a TV movie about the music, career, private conflicts, and personal lives of the popular 1990's trio TLC.
Made up of Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas, Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, and Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, who was tragically killed in a car accident while on a spiritual retreat in Honduras in April 2002, the group sold tens of millions of albums worldwide and is still considered to be one of the most successful female singing groups in history.
The two living members of the group, T-Boz and Chilli, are on board as consultants and executive producers for the film, which will be written by Kate Lanier - who wrote the screenplays for What’s Love Got To Do With It, Beauty Shop, and Set It Off. In fact, it was Lanier's previous experience on those projects that gave her the edge in being chosen for this one.
According to Chilli:
“The reality of this brings me to tears because I am seeing one of my dreams come to life. I always felt our story had to be told. What makes it even more amazing is having Kate Lanier on board. I remember watching ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It’ with Lisa, and I knew then whoever wrote that story had to write ours."
No word yet as to a director or if a casting search has begun.
