On the heels of Monique's Fashion-In-Film review post on the show, comes word this morning that VH1 has renewed the Queen Latifah-produced series Single Ladies for a second season!

So, those of you who've been watching the show and loving it, should be pleased! I'm not one of those people unfortunately. 1 episode was enough for me, though I hear it's actually gotten better. I'll take your word for it.

The show, which made its debut on May 30th, has been averaging close to 3 million viewers each week, with a strong showing in its core 18 to 34 female demographic, says Variety.

Production on season 2 will begin this fall, and it's starring cast, Stacey Dash, LisaRaye McCoy and Charity Shea, will return. And why wouldn't they? Cha-ching!

Again with the digs at the acting? LOL I really don't get it...I think the acting (along with the writing/show) has gotten a lot better. I'm enjoying it so I'm glad to hear about a second season.

Okay, I gave in, I peeked at the show last night. I don't do much (very little TV) but I had to see what folks were talking about.

When I say I peeked in, I'm talking like 2 minutes. It didn't take me long to see that the writing was terrible, and yes, the acting was no better. But you know what, imo, I place much of the balme on the director and the writers. I think we all can agree (maybe some don't) that every TV series and movie's success (or failure) depends heavily on the writing. However, even if the writing is porous, the director has strong control over the actors. And his vision is the last thing we see. So, as I am watching a series or movie, I'm thinking, why on earth would "that" director let "that" scene make the final cut? I mean, can't he or she see/feel that some scenes just are not doing the damn thang?

"CUT! Hey Mr. and Ms. actor, what emotions/feeling/mood were you trying to project, because I was not feeling it. Let's do it again for the umptenth time"

I actually like the show a lot. Ok, they can't act but it actually gets better with each week. The story lines are very relatable, and makes you reflect on your own situations.

When I saw the first episode of Single Ladies. I thought that it was straight garbage but I kept watching and I've grown to like it. It's not cleverly written (like Living Single) or well acted but the story is kind of compelling so I like it in a soap opera sort of way. They just need to bring in new writers (like Kriss Turner) and stop worrying about the celebrity cameos every episode.

Also, it has MUCH better production value than BET's The Game which uses the same soundstage with black velvet draping for a majority of the scenes. The Game is getting more viewers on average so BET needs to step their game up next season, I saw some pretty bug TV Ads during the show, so I know they have SOME money!

I think this is leading to a shift of Black TV Shows on cable instead of Basic TV. We don't have UPN (U People Network) anymore and the other channels aren't really giving us a chance. I haven't seen Love That Girl on TV One but they just had a July 4th weekend marathon, so it must be doing ok.

I actually like the show after watching the dismal pilot. The acting is....eh, but it's a guilty pleasure, a perfect companion piece to Basketball Wives.
