I've been told by a few folks who saw Stick Fly while it was on Broadway, that she was the best thing about it, and she put on quite a show. Maybe that helps explain the fact that the only Tony nomination the play received was for Condola Rashad's performance - a Best Featured Actress nomimation.

A "For Your Consideration" compilation of clips from the show, highlighting Condola's performance, has been released, ahead of the awards celebration, which takes place this Sunday, June 10, at 8/7c, airing live on CBS.

I'm sure many of you will be tuning in to see if Ms Rashad walks away with the award in her category (I'm going to go out on a limb and say that she will); the future looks very bright for this one.

But ahead of Sunday's broadcast, and especially for those who didn't see the show (most of us), and/or who have never seen Condola act (whether on stage or screen), you've got 17 minutes to get a good enough feel for her ability.

Produced by Alicia KeysLydia R. Diamond's Stick Fly, which was directed by Kenny Leon, starred Ruben Santiago-HudsonDulé HillMekhi PhiferTracie Thoms, and Condola Rashad. It closed on February 26.

Condola's performance was indeed the best thing about Stick Fly -- a largely, uneven play with even more muddled, uneven direction and pacing by Leon. Her performance and presence was moving, palpable.

I really like this play and the cast, but have never ever been a fan of Leon's direction. I would have liked to have seen this in NY, but I can see why there were no other nominations. Parts of this clip felt like an after school special plus Dule and Tracy (who both I love) were acting in an extremely presentational manner. This was my first time seeing Condola perform outside of playing the "isn't he gay?" guy's girlfriend on Smash. Good stuff! Happy for her and can only hope that the play lives on & is executed better in regional theatre.
