It premiered on Saturday night; did you watch? And if you did, reactions?

If you didn't, maybe the newly-released 4 clips from the film (embedded below) will entice you. Or maybe not. Watch them and decide. Also you should know that it'll screen again on Thursday May 1 at 8PM, and Friday May 2 at 12 AM.

Whoopi Goldberg and Ving Rhames headline the Lifetime Original, Movie A Day Late and a Dollar Short, which is based on The New York Times bestseller by Terry McMillan, and tells the uplifting story of a mother who tries to help her dysfunctional family through life's ups and downs.

The film also stars Mekhi Phifer, Kimberly Elise, Anika Noni Rose and Tichina Arnold

In A Day Late and a Dollar Short, when irascible matriarch Viola Price (Goldberg) learns that her next asthma attack will likely kill her, she is determined to fix her fractured family before she leaves this world, from her relationship with her husband to the lives of her four children and grandchildren. While on this quest, she must contend with sibling rivalry, teen pregnancy and drug addiction - and that is only one child. Additionally, her jailbird son needs to learn how to be a better father, her granddaughter is in bigger trouble than her daughter is willing to admit and Viola's estranged husband needs saving from his scheming younger girlfriend. It's the kind of meddling that the Price family hasn't experienced from Viola in decades, and she won't have an easy time bending her loved ones to her will.

Produced by Ostar Productions, the film is executive produced by Stephen Tolkin (who also directed), along with Whoopi Goldberg and Tom Leonardis, Jeffrey Hayes and Bill Haber

Shernold Edwards wrote the script based on McMillan's book.

I'm going to watch, and likely enjoy.

Trust me, an HBO production would look entirely different than this.

The best part was the cast, loved seeing them together. Though I do wish this was an HBO production instead of a Lifetime movie.

Okay, I've read Terry McMillan's A DAY LATE AND A DOLLAR SHORT, and it's honestly the novel that made me respect her literary skills. It is her masterpiece and one of the best contemporary novels I've ever read. That said, this adaptation looks like a train wreck of bad casting, poor (rushed) writing, and over-acting. I didn't expect it to be as good as the book, but I certainly didn't expect it to look horrible and unwatchable. I expected something fairly mediocre. This just looks pathetic. (I'll watch it still just for closure.)

For anyone who has not read McMillan's books because the film adaptations have scared you away, do yourself a favor and ignore/avoid the film adaptations--and, in particular, read the following books: Mama, Waiting to Exhale, Disappearing Acts, and A Day Late and a Dollar Short. I guarantee that, if you like well-written stories, you'll like the first one and the last one on that list and find yourself surprised by the caliber of her writing. But the film adaptations of her novels suck horse's balls. I'm just saying.

I will agree that ham-fisted filmmaking has something to do with quality here, but I'm going to politely add that perhaps the "paring down" of any novel to fit within a 90-page screenplay truly reveals the potential flaws of the original author's storytelling.
