'Wolf' Still

We've already sung the praises of Ya'Ke Smith's feature film directorial debut Wolf many times on S&A - a film that Vanessa and I saw for the first time at the SXSW Film Festival earlier this year, where it made its debut (read my review HERE if you missed it).

As Sergio announced last night, Wolf will be screening at the Black Harvest Film Festival in August, so Chi-town S&A readers will be able to check it out if they haven't already.

It's still without distribution, which I'm not entirely surprised by (even though it's unfortunate). Distributors aren't exactly always rushing to pick up dramas with all-black casts, even if they're well-made. Such has been the problem for many black films over the years - locking in that ever-elusive distribition deal; but just locking it in - the filmmakers and producers also want to make sure they get the best deal possible, and that their films are in the hands of the right distributors.

You can't just run with the first offer you get.

But our fingers are crossed for Wolf.

A new clip from the film has been released, and it's embedded below:

Evan Ross, Roger Guenveur Smith, Danny Glover, Dorian Missick and Nia Long; the cast of Mooz-lum. You're correct Tambay, distributors aren't exactly always rushing to pick up dramas with all-black casts, even if they're well-made (and have a recognizable cast). On top of that, add to that mix a religious theme, and then we have bigger problems. This post caught my eye b/c I just finished (1;30AM) watching Mooz-lum for the first time. And I've been following your posts on Ya'Ke's "Wolf". Now, although this new clip didn't-really-draw-me-in, I was already highly anticipating watching the film. In fact, I hope to meet the director at the Black Harvest Film Festival. I looked over the schedule and I believe he's going to be at both showings in the middle of the week -- I can make those. Back to Mooz Lum: I found one DVD copy in my area (pop. 350,000).
