From director Lucas Nieto comes the below new short film, made in conjunction with the Why Poverty initiative (which we've highlighted on this blog recently), titled In Your Hands; the film examines the poverty-inspired gang violence in the Cali, Colombia district of Aguablanca, and the choices many have made in order to challenge statistics.

Nieto is also currently working on a documentary that also focuses on that district, titled Vivo En Aguablanca (Alive In Aguablanca).

It looks interesting, but how many films do we have to see that depicts Black people living like this? Not all of us are enticed by street life or gangs. It is like the message is being sent that no matter where Black people live, they are surrounded by violence. So far:

    1) Boyz N Da Hood-USA
    2) City of God-Brasil
    3) Tsotsi- South Africa
    4) Attack the Block- England

and now Blacks in Colombia? I am kind of tired of this.
