Expendables 3

I'm going to make a prediction right now and say that this will be the highest-grossing Expendables movie of the 3, and just might surprise to the upside when it's released next summer.

Not that isn't already expected to be a hit for Lionsgate, but I'm suggesting that it will exceed expectations by plenty. I know I'm already excited to see it, 9 months ahead.

It'll mark Wesley Snipes' first major gig post-prison, after serving a 3-year sentence at the Federal Correctional Institution in Pennsylvania for tax evasion, and I think his presence alone will be a draw, if only because audiences (especially fans of his) will be absolutely thrilled to see him on the big screen again, doing what he does best, after what seems like ages since his last hit.

But not just him. Snipes will be part of an ensemble cast of heavy-hitters like Harrison Ford and Mel Gibson, fresh faces who both join the existing group that includes Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jet Li, Terry Crews, Jason Statham and others.

Also, Antonio Banderas has been added as well.

So you've got a nice mix of backgrounds there, covering 4 continents.

The Expendables 3 is set for an August 152014 release.

Patrick Hughes is directing.

What's this one about? Who cares? Testosterone, big guns, big explosions, lots of adult language, and some comedic situations, none of it aimed at the PC crowd. What more do you need to know? You're either with it, or you're not.

Here's the first teaser (emphasis on the word "teaser").

Oh, and underneath, check out Wesley Snipes' character poster:

Sly his holding it down for the Boomer generation.

Expendables, Rambo, Rocky, Grudge Match, Escape Plan.

Escape Plan looked too much like Tango & Cash and Lock Up, so I put it on the to be watched later list.

Wesley Snipes, your second careers begin now! If another ensemble production calls, and they WILL, dammit pick up the phone!

Anybody know why Carl Weathers has yet to be in these films?

  • Adam Scott Thompson | December 19, 2013 11:34 PM

I too once wondered why Action Jackson had yet to throw off his tear-aways and get in the game. I went in search of the answer and...

The falling out between Stallone and Weathers dates back to pre-production on "Rocky Balboa." Stallone wanted to use Weathers' footage as Apollo Creed for flashback purposes.

It's said that Weathers quote some exorbitant amount for use of his image and Stallone balked and went all "Used to be my homie, used to be my ace..." on Carl. He went on without the Creed and footage the two haven't been cool since.

I was skeptical of this explanation at first. Then I saw how Stallone reacted to Bruce Willis leaving the project ('cause Bruce still makes a shit-ton of money on his own).
