"Fruitvale"

Here's your first-look footage at Michael B. Jordan and Octavia Spencer in Ryan Coogler's lauded multiple Sundance Film Festival award winner, Fruitvale

The Weinstein Company acquired distribution rights to the film which is based on the murder of 22-year old Oscar Grant (played by Jordan), and it co-stars Tristan Wilds and Melonie Diaz, with Forest Whitaker producing.

Zeba Blay reviewed it for us after screening it at Sundance; Read that review HERE.

The clip comes courtesy of a Sundance edition episode of Democracy Now, in which host Amy Goodman interviewe Coogler and others. The interview starts the 32:20 mark. The first clip itself, which is just 30 seconds long, comes at the 33:40 mark; the second clip, about a minute long, begins around the 37:45 mark.

everytime I think about this story I weep. I can't you know. I feel a personal connection to this young man I watched his life taken from him on the web. Tears aren't enough

I may be alone, but I don't find either of those clips to be that compelling, well-written, or performed. If anything a little obvious and stiff. Still excited to see them in context of the whole film, though...

There's definitely a Lifetime vibe about it. Listening to Coogler speak is worse, though. I would hate to think that I've discredited him for a speech problem.
