Here's the first trailer for the Lionsgate/Summit thriller, Snitch, which stars Dwayne Johnson, and is directed by Ric Roman Waugh (mostly a stunt coordinator for several previous action films like Gone In 60 Seconds).

Johnson stars as a father whose teenage son is wrongly accused of a drug distribution crime and is looking at a mandatory minimum prison sentence of 10 years. Desperate and determined to rescue his son at all costs, he makes a deal with the U.S. attorney to work as an undercover informant and infiltrate a drug cartel on a dangerous mission, risking everything, including his family and his own life.

Michael K. Williams co-stars as a narcotics kingpin with a short temper who becomes involved with Johnson's character.

Benjamin Bratt and Susan Sarandon also co-star in a film that is said to be based on a PBS Frontline documentary.

The project had been in development for years; and, at one point, Carl Franklin was attached to direct.

Snitch is set to be released on February 22.

Heh, they shot this movie in Shreveport? I must have been doing a Rip Van Winkle. Dwayne Johnson and Benjamin Bratt were in town and I had no idea!

I like Michael K. Williams, but since he has struggled with drug abuse in his real life, wouldn't it be better for him to steer away from drug related roles? He also needs to break out of the typecasting.

Unless he's method to the point of stupidity, I'm sure he's safe pretending to boss drug dealers around. Plus, it's probably not reflective of his actual experience at all.

By title alone--won't sell. Overseas? Perhaps, so I hope they got their MG's lined up.

Title alone? That's a ridiculous statement. Black folks are going to want to see the Rock just like everybody else. Helps that Michael Williams is in it too. If White America even knows the significance of the slang term "snitch" they wouldn't care. White folks stay snitchin'! They don't live by hood codes. Calling the cops is their first line of defense. It is celebrated.
