FOX has set its new contemporary take on the legend of Sleepy Hollow, starring Nicole Beharie, to air on Monday nights this fall, at 9/8c.

Beharie will play Detective Abbie Archer, described as "a smart and tough detective in small town Sleepy Hollow. Poised to leave the town in a week for the FBI Academy, she has an unspoken reluctance about her decision. Her troubling past causes her to doubt her perceptive abilities and she's horrified as she witnesses the gory slaying of her partner and mentor, Sheriff August Grey. Barely able to speak about what she saw, only one person can corroborate her story -- Ichabod Crane, an unwilling fugitive from the past who claims to be a soldier in the Revolutionary War."

Beharie is joined by Orlando JonesTom Mison and Katia Winter, in a pilot that will see Ichabod Crane - a tested captain in the Revolutionary War - transported to present day Sleepy Holly, where he's charged with the murder of a police officer and has to prove his innocence, as well as convince a wary detective believe he's from the 18th century.

Orlando Jones will play Lt. Frank Williams.

Alex Kurtzman (Fringe) and Bob Orci penned the pilot script as well as executive produced, with Phil IscoveHeather Kadin also exec produced, while Len Wiseman directed the pilot.

Looks fun. I'll definitely give it a try.

  • Justin D. | May 20, 2013 2:39 PMReply

Interesting premise, and I love Nicole, but I foresee this getting canceled after one season.

  • Nadell | May 17, 2013 11:20 PMReply

I am strangely intrigued! Beharie is slowly climbing on up! Luvs her!

  • beanbean | May 15, 2013 10:09 PMReply

Why am I so excited for this?? It's a very different type of show, and I like that. It's good to see black people in a supernatural show.

  • Po Black Acta | May 15, 2013 1:53 PMReply

He asked her "are you emancipated from slavery...?"

You do realize that they have cast God's messenger as the bad guy right? Not Satan's messenger, but one of the 4 horsemen of the Apocalypse? Oh "yeah, I was just sent from God to tell you guys that the world is coming to an..." Slice! As he is trying to pick his head up off the ground, "Hey, don't blame me, I'm just the messeng---" Bang! Bang! Bang! I think the very ominous music makes the show don't you? The very serious nature of the acting? Makes it almost believable that a 4ft cop, a dirty book (i.e., Bible belonging to George Washington), a guy named Icka-Bob, a sword, and mortal guns can actually take out God's immortal messengers? God's like "dang, knew I shoulda gotten the Kracken to do this..." hmmmm... uh...uh...uh...uh...uh..laugh...laugh...laugh.

I remember this being announced and I thought "Oh Lord, here goes ONCE UPON A TIME" all over again. But this trailer, it was the first one I saw that I actually said "Well damn". Great look for Nicole and seriously, she has better moments in that trailer than most "big name" actresses that are on other pilots! And the show should be good creepy interesting fun. EVEN with Orlando Jones LOL

  • dee | May 14, 2013 4:56 PMReply

I think this will be a winner.

  • ALM | May 14, 2013 2:24 PMReply

This is great exposure for Nicole....she could become the next household name.

    Orlando Jones is so versatile.

  • ALM | May 15, 2013 12:19 PM

Lily are you a minister, because you read A LOT into this television show.

Also, why do you keep saying that Ms. Beharie is 4 feet tall? Do you have a personal issue with her?

  • lily l broosha | May 15, 2013 11:05 AM

Right, as the actress that finally put God in his place by taking down his horseman from the Bible. Satan will be VERY happy on this one. Did no one catch this slight issue during script writing or was this intentional? When was the last time God's messenger was cast as the bad guy? Comparison to Or, maybe I have read Revelation wrong? So, what would Season II look like... Then God approached to have his Angel open the Seventh Seal, and Icka-Bob and the 4ft cop (Beharie) clubbed the poor seal to death? With John Hancock's day timer while Andrew Jackson shot him in a deadly duel? To, me, this show sounds ridiculous. Especially the ominous music and dreary environment. Taken so seriously for being so quirky and dumb. Get real.

Oh yes, this will definitely be in my TV lineup next season.

  • Ayo | May 14, 2013 8:35 AMReply

Digging the look of this. Nice to see Beharie in a series and one that looks this good.
Also the folks behind this are writers i really like.

  • Geneva Girl | May 14, 2013 4:52 AMReply

It looks like it would be a kick-a** movie, I'm just not sure how they'll sustain it as a series, but I'll give it a go.

  • Goldi | May 14, 2013 3:10 AMReply

    I'm excited!

  • Johnnie MD | May 13, 2013 11:26 PMReply

I love stuff like this! I'm definitely in!

  • PhredG | May 13, 2013 10:14 PMReply

"Do you think he can HEAR us?" LOL I LOVE IT! Lady M ROCKS!
And yeah she DOES make a better cop than Meagan imho.

  • slb | May 13, 2013 8:48 PMReply

Actually, this looks a LOT better than I expected. I'm in.

  • saadiyah | May 13, 2013 8:41 PMReply

    This looks CRAZY! I'm in!!!!

  • Bee | May 13, 2013 8:23 PMReply

Looks pretty damn exciting to me. Between the hotness of Nicole Beharie and the guy playing Ichabod Crane, I'll certainly bee watching.

  • Bee | May 13, 2013 8:25 PM

Also...I swear, every time I have a screen name on this site that I think no one else has, somebody turns up with the same screen name. For the record, I'm not the same Bee who made the Shame comment.

  • Africameleon | May 13, 2013 7:21 PMReply

This looks good, I love O. Jones, and plus N. Beharie is a more convincing police officer than M. Good.

  • Vanessa Martinez | May 13, 2013 6:24 PMReply

Is it just me or this actually looks really damn interesting? Can't wait.

  • Peah | May 13, 2013 7:02 PM

It does look interesting. I'm in.

  • Bee | May 13, 2013 6:05 PMReply

I can't believe she exposed herself in Shame

  • Josh | May 13, 2013 5:33 PMReply

Time Travel, historical in jokes, Marvel references.....yeah, I'm in.

  • Amanda | June 10, 2013 12:59 PM
