Another day, another web series profile; as I said already, 2011 is/was the year of the black web series, as black content creators embraced that particular form of exhibition. And I expect 2012 will see an even heavier dose of content created specifically for the web, by black producers.
Today's feature comes from R. L. Scott, and is titled Champion Road.
Scott wrote, produced, directed, and shot a pilot episode for the series described as "an action drama... surrounding a middle class Black family [...] with a positive message depicting images of strong Black Men," and it's embedded below.
Darrin Dewitt Henson (Soul Food), Monyque Thompson Scott (Lie to Me), Brooklyn Mclinn (Hawthorne) and Ary Katz (J. Edgar) make up the series' pilot starring cast.
Watch it below:

Wow, this is dope!!! I am feeling the concept and message. Great production value and great acting. The fight scenes are hot as well. R.L. Scott's work is always top notch. His web series "Touye Pwen" was also amazing, and it got him funding for the feature film he is working on now. Continued success to him.

Great tone and look. Action sequences are tight - a bit alien with only fighters in the daytime ("not last night"). What's funny is how the scene between the DA and PI/Det. had a level of maturity while the street-fighting/tough-guy/mentor-father angles felt forced. Necessary I guess to make the pitch work. I do commend the filmmakers. I do hope it gets the right eyes to see it. Vigilance!
