Created by director/producer Angela Tucker, we featured season 1 of this series last year; fans will be pleased to know that season 2 is in full swing, with episode 4 embedded below; this one titled Black Folk Don't: Do Atheism.

But first...

When is the last time you met a black atheist? Having faith has been a long tradition for black folk in the US and across the world? So is it true that black folk don't do atheism?

No, it's not true. You're reading the words of an atheist, who also happens to be black; and there are countless others. Blasphemy, right?

Another black atheist reporting in :p
I'm sick of the lies and double standards from the religious people I come into contact with. Atheism just makes a lot more sense. I have a feeling that if your only social support is theists you will stay in more than if you had options.
There was a thread on r/blackatheism and everyone in it had at least some kind of university education - a chance at making your own social group away from the [oft religious] family ties.

Very interesting piece. I actually love this series. I think the problem is most people get caught up I organized religion and not realize that the relationship is not with organized church but a relationship with God. Many organized religions and denominations push onto people their view of who God is. If most truly had an inkling of who God truly is they would have a different perspective of their relationship with him and with each other. Believers and non-believers as well. But in all despite our differences we should still all love one another.

I think we're all aware of "God", the tired ol "I'm spiritual, not religious" crap and "he has a personal relationship with you". We just think it's bullshit. The amount of black folk, including myself, are waking up and realizing this religion stuff is just hogwash.
