'Red Band Society'

Here's your first look at a series FOX ordered for its 2014/2015 TV season, starring Octavia Spencer, which is a remake of a lauded Spanish drama titled Pulseras Rojas (known in English as Red Band Society).

The Catalan television show that first aired in 2011, was created by Albert Espinosa and draws on his childhood experiences as a hospital patient. It tells the story of a group of Catalan children and teenagers who meet as patients in the children's wing of a hospital.

Oscar winner Spencer stars, plays Nurse Jackson, described as a tough, intuitive nurse who's very good at her job. But despite her hard exterior, she is very sympathetic to the kids on her ward.

Margaret Nagle (Boardwalk Empire) penned the U.S. adaptation and is exec producing for Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television. Amblin’s Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank also exec produce, with producer Sergio Aguero, who brought the project to Amblin.

Told through the eyes of a group of teenagers who meet as patients in a hospital pediatric ward, the drama stars, in addition to Spencer, Dave Annable, Griffin Dunne, Ciara Bravo, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Charlie Rowe, Griffin Gluck, and Wilson Cruz.

The busy Spencer's casting came a couple of months after NBC put its Murder, She Wrote reboot (which was to star Octavia Spencer) on ice, with plans to come up with another way to re-imagine the series.

Let's hope this one sticks for her, over at FOX. A series order is certainly a good start. It will air on Wednesdays from 9-10pm, starting this fall, on FOX.

Many A-listers have been going to TV for a few years now, Amari Sali. TV arguably offers far more opportunities for actors, and for that matter, writers, too. Quite a few Oscar winning or nominated folks have taken to the small screen to strut their stuff. So no, I don't agree that TV is a step down. This stigma doesn't exist as it once did back in the day.

I quite like the show, though I am wondering why her and Viola are going to TV? Is it still considered a step down, or is that only the old standard?

Well Halle Berry is doing a TV series also. Is that a step down for her too?

This actually seems like a good fit for Octavia and that it might have potential. It seems like it runs the risk of being sappy, especially considering the way Spielberg has been going over the years. Nonetheless the man can pull at a heartstring.
