You should be familiar with NYU grad and filmmaker Nikyatu Jusu, whose work we've covered quite thoroughly in the past. Nikyatu is the helmer of the acclaimed shorts African Booty Scratcher and Say Grace Before Drowning. She was also the winner of the Shadow and Act Filmmaker Challenge for the screenplay of her short film Black Swan Theory.

And now, Jusu's upcoming web series, Suicide by Sunlight, has released its promo teaser. Sunlight centers on "daywalking Black Vampyres protected by added melanin roam modern day NYC. RAYN, a half vamp+half human hybrid rejects her vampyre lineage while hunting for the right human mate."

You can follow the web series' progress on Facebook HERE.

While we await the first episode, here's your first look:

Not really feeling this one. Seems a bit comical, almost blaxploitation so I'm not sure what the tone is here or if it's to be taken seriously. Vampire makeup could be a bit better as well. Good effort though.

Cool. Looks interesting! The music choice is also a nice touch.

While the this looks lovely for a webseries, those are some sloppy vampires. I hate how sloppy vampires have become when drinking blood these days. No table manners. I'll be watching anyway.

Damn...she just let Felix go, huh?

Cool! I'm really loving the 90s punk fashion and this choice of music as a backdrop. It may not have the same production effects as, lets say, True Blood, but the artistic choices are drawing me in. I'm excited!

I dig everything about this concept. Everything. Adding to my list of series to support.

In case anyone is wondering that picture is Teresa Graves from the mid-1970's comedy Old Dracula with David Niven. The big gag at the end is that she bites him and he turns black. It had people rolling in the aisles. A different time, a different place back then

I was wondering! I bought a print of this a few years ago because I was surprised to see a black female vampire, but was never able to locate the details. Thanks a bunch Sergio!

You're recounting the story had me rolling. Now I have to go rent the film if it's still available.
