Quick recap... Shonda Rhimes' new series Scandal which is headlined by Kerry Washington, with Columbus Short and others in supporting roles.

The new show will debut on April 5 (a Thursday) at 10PM.

As already reported on this site, the series is based on the life of real-life Washington-based PR guru Judy Smith – former White House press aide under President George H. Bush, who also counseled Monica Lewinsky, Michael Vick, Senator Larry Craig, worked on the prosecution of former D.C. Mayor Marion Barry, the Clarence Thomas Supreme Court hearings, the Chandra Levy investigation and the Enron Congressional inquiry.

Kerry Washington stars as Judy Smith (who’ll be known as Olivia Pope in the series), who’s described as “stylish but weary, too smart for her own good, something of a legend, formidable, driven, insightful, intuitive and fearless; heads up a team of crack legal experts.

Columbus Short will play a lawyer on her team.

The official full synopsis reads:

From the creator and executive producers of “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Private Practice” comes a drama revolving around the life and work of a professional crisis manager and her dysfunctional staff. A former media relations consultant to the President, Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) dedicates her life to protecting and defending the public images of our nation’s elite. After leaving the White House, the power consultant opened her own firm, hoping to start a new chapter -- both professionally and personally -- but she can’t seem to completely cut ties with her past. Slowly it becomes apparent that her staff, who specialize in fixing the lives of other people, can’t quite fix the ones closest at hand -- their own.

I saw the first two episodes of this through a friend at ABC. This show is hot! It totally hooks you in. It has its own pace and style, so give it a chance to pull you into its world. I loved it.

I don't believe her in this role . . . and its not the acting . . . its the casting . . . its just hard to believe her as this formidable woman . . . fast talk doesn't necessarily equal formidable.

I'm glad for Shonda and Kerry, but can't help but compare this to Damages with Glenn Close, which I LOVE. I don't know if it's the writing or her acting, but Kerry's character does not seem like a real person to me, and the staccato dialogue in the first scene re: the job interview is annoying. Maybe I have seen too many attorney shows for this to feel fresh and authentic.

Jayson Jay boy get a clue Kerry is still a great actress! She deserved an Oscar nomination for her role in The Dead Girl! She was unbelievable in that movie. This tv show role seems perfect for her likeness and acting style. I'm sure she will be great!

I was a Kerry Washington fan since I saw 'Our Song' back in the day and later 'Lift' but I have to say her acting has become as stiff and wooden as Angela Bassett.

Don't hate on Rhimes. She knows what she is doing. Gotta play the biz "game" first, then when you get clout, get your projects in. If you want to work with the networks that is. I'll be checking this out too.
