Created by filmmakers, Jon Avnet and Rodrigo Garcia, WIGS is a new YouTube channel producing original, scripted series, short films, and documentaries, all starring female leads.

WIGS will take you on an unpredictable, often outrageous journey into the lives, loves, and lies of our characters. WIGS. Where It Gets Interesting.

Taking a look at the Channel's YouTube page, you'll find every series (those that are already underway, and those that are on the way), each titled with just a woman's first name... like this one, titled Christine, which stars America Ferrera as a young woman on a nutty evening of speed dating.

Watch 2 episodes from the series below - the first with Brandon Fobbs; the second with Gary DourdanThanks to Racialicious for alerting me to WIGS; watch:

By the way, I couldn't find any existing WIGS series that center on the lives of black women specifically; however, the channel does say that there are at least 10 more series coming, so one of those (you'd think) would center on the life and loves of a black woman.

The press release I found online contains this:

Over the coming weeks and months, WIGS will be releasing content produced with a renowned group of writers and filmmakers, all starring female leads. Upcoming programming showcases actors including: Dakota Fanning, Jennifer Beals, Maura Tierney, Michael C. Hall, America Ferrera, Jason Isaacs, Allison Janney, Jane Kaczmarek, Jena Malone, Rosanna Arquette, Walton Goggins, Jimmy Wolk, Gary Cole, Tim DeKay, Jason O'Mara, and Catherine O'Hara.

I guess Jennifer Beals is it then...

By the way, Effie Brown is producer of Christine.

About the erasure of black women, I blame us (black women). Effie Brown produces at least one of these, and would it have been so hard for her to focus one on a black woman? I guess so. Anyway, I like the Julia Stiles one. America Ferrara annoys me, just generally.

"I blame us (black women). "
Yes, cuz Effie (who I never heard of until this thread) = all Black women. smh

"Blue" w/Julia Stiles and "Christine" are the best so far. "Jan" wasn't that great unfortunately but I'm excited about this YouTube channel and the content that is to come. Also check out "Denise" featuring Allison Pill, written by Neil LaBute and "Dakota" featuring Jena Malone. They have something great going on there, and I'm glad it's focused on women. Yes, there definitely needs to be more color; hopefully it'll come soon.

I heard about this from some time ago but have only managed to watch a few episodes of Christine w/ America Ferrera. I just don't have enough time. And I can't make a judgement having seen so few episodes in the series.

I heard about it. I filmmaker colleague told me about this. I haven't gotten the chance to check it out.

I notice there's a lot of black guys (in the background and of course the two with "Christine"). But are there even black women shown in this?

    The erasure continues.

Well... 'Effie Brown' produces so I guess there's black women involved, just not on screen. I don't expect the upcoming 'ten stories' to showcase bw either so I won't get my hopes up on WIGS. I'm happy to see Gary Dourdan there though. And Julia Stiles, glad she's back. That's about it lol.

I am currently watching Christine, but the best one is Blue w/ Julia Stiles.
