Well... here it is. Not only is it the first trailer, but they're unleashing it on us in red-band form; forget opening with a G-rated trailer.

The big-screen adaptation of the popular late 1980s/early '90s TV cop drama 21 Jump Street, which is scheduled to hit theaters on March 16, 2012, starring Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, DeRay Davis, Brie Larson and Ice Cube.

The film's official synopsis reads:

In the action-comedy 21 Jump Street, Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum) are more than ready to leave their adolescent problems behind. Joining the police force and the secret Jump Street unit, they use their youthful appearances to go undercover in a local high school. As they trade in their guns and badges for backpacks, Schmidt and Jenko risk their lives to investigate a violent and dangerous drug ring. But they find that high school is nothing like they left it just a few years earlier and neither expects that they will have to confront the terror and anxiety of being a teenager again and all the issues they thought they had left behind.

Directed by the tag-team of Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs), the movie is rated R of course.

Ice Cube plays the Captain role, which was Steven Williams' in the original TV series; Mr DeRay Davis will play a character named Domingo, a tattooed leader of a biker gang that doubles as a drug ring. Johnny Depp and Holly Robinson Peete are expected to make cameo appearances.

WTH! Did I miss the memo that this would be "Dumb and Dumber 2"? You're correct slb...it's "stupid funny" which is fine but they didn't need to call it "21 Jump Street". *shrugs*

Wow, what a nightmare! The same type of train wreck they made out of The Green Hornet. Why not call it something else and not destroy the memory of a television show that launched some of our veteran actors. White people can get any turd made. What a disaster! SMDH.

This actually looks "stupid funny" but why call it "21 Jumpstreet"?

Zzzzzzz!!!! I think I missed the earlier "in development" articles where this was supposed to be a buddy cop comedy. Add the extra ridiculous fact that Channing and Jonah look way too old for high school and this is probably going to be a box office flop. Hopefully the next trailer will put a better spin on the film because I don't see them bringing in at least the nostalgia crowd.

You know, I was expecting a cheesy remake but the key word is adaptation. And it actually doesn't look too bad. I mean, it looks like the typical quirky, toilet humor comedies that has been coming out over the last few years. But it looks like a lot of fun. And more importantly, it didn't take itself too seriously.
