An English-language trailer is supposed to debut later this week, but if you just can't wait for it, here's the French trailer for the 4th installment in the Mission: Impossible franchise, titled Ghost Protocol, which sees the return of regulars Tom Cruise, and Ving Rhames, as well as the addition of newcomers Paula Patton, Jeremy Renner, and others, with Renner's role here being Cruise's heir apparent, as this might be his last go-round with the franchise.

Also, Brad Bird directed this one, his first live-action film, after directing animated critical and crowd-pleasers like The Incredibles and Ratatouille.

The film opens December 16th, and I gotta say, despite the language barrier, I'm liking what I see here.

Watch it now before it disappears (h/t The Playlist):

Wow. I loved The Incredibles and Ratatouille. Have watched them more than once, twice, thrice?...mice... -_-

Oh yes, this is about MI:4

I've been a fan of the show/movies since forever, so I'll definitely be seeing this one, as well.

Paula Patton gets into a cat fight in the movie, so I guess her role is quite big.

This actually looks good. It looks like really good espionage this time around. HOWEVER...

I've never liked the movie franchise because it's nothing more than a Tom Cruise movie(s) vehicle... I'm a big fan of the original tv series and the whole point of the series was to strategically WORK AS A TEAM to accomplish the MISSION. Any fault by any of the IMF (Impossible Missions Force agents) could result in the failure of the mission and/or death of that agent and possibly the other team members as well.

That was such high stakes and high drama which made the show so successful besides the well-written episodic stories lines. The movie franchise is just a one-man show with Ving Rhames just hovering in the background.

Yet, I may relent and see this one. It does look better than the previous efforts, and its tone seems even more serious.

Dang, this does look good. I liked the original but the rest were just too action filled, no substance. Wonder if Paula Patton actually does anything? And where's Ving Rhames?!?

I've never seen a Mission Impossible film. :-./ I feel so out of it. This looks cool though.

    Thanks for the translation Sandra!

Also, it's clearly "NUCLEAR WORLD WAR" not WORD war. Since they are obviously not talking about a scrabble throwdown.

It's hard to type in these small boxes! I can't stop making typos. LOL

    De rien, Cynthia! Avec plaisir!

    Hi all,

I just translated the trailer for those interested...(I welcome any excuse to procrastinate on working on my own stuff. LOL!)
Man (over montage): An hour ago, a bomb blew up the Kremlin. The president has initiated the Ghost Protocol. The entire Mission Impossible team has been dispatched. I have orders to accompany you to Washington where you will be charged in the Kremlin bombing, unless you are able to escape after attacking us and (taking a witness??? can't hear what he say here). But if one of you is captured, this agent will be accused of terrorism with the intention of setting off a nuclear word war.

    Ethan: So what happens now?
Man: Your mission, if you choose to accept it...(montage)

    Woman: So… what’s the plan?

Woman sexy exit from vehicle…action sequence (Eminem song)

    Ethan and Jeremy’s character fight
Ethan: Who are you, really Brandt?
Brandt: We all have our secrets. Isn’t that so, Ethan?

    Ethan and Simon Pegg’s character
    Pegg: Remember, blue, you hang/hook.
    Ethan: And when it’s red?
    Pegg: You crash.

Jeremy’s character to hunt as he’s climbing the skyscraper: YOU WON’T MAKE IT!
    Hunt: That is helpful!

Looks stylish and fun, hopefully Brad Bird makes it the best of the franchise, I wasn't a big fan of the previous entries.

  • that dude | June 26, 2011 11:00 AMReply

Love how hot this looks. Can't wait to understand it. But like everybody else, Brad Bird alone makes it a must for me.

  • Laura | June 26, 2011 10:53 AMReply

Same here. The Incredibles is an instant classic. I want see it simply because of Brad Bird.

  • James Madison | June 26, 2011 9:48 AMReply

I want to see this because it will be Brad Bird's "live" action feature debut.

    Hopefully the script/story is engaging.
