Nonso Anozie As Xaro Xhoan Daxos In 'Game Of Thrones'

Season 2 isn't quite over yet, but fans (as well as the network - HBO) are already looking to season 3 of the hit series Game Of Thrones, based on George R.R. Martin’s third Song of Ice and Fire novel, A Storm of Swords.

One big question on the minds of many, and for producers of the series to ponder is what season 3's cast list will look like; specifically, what new characters can audiences expect to be introduced next year, especially since the lengthy book is being divided into two seasons.

EW.com recently spoke to showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss about next season’s plans, and they revealed what new characters will be introduced in season 3:

– Mance Rayder: A former member of the Night’s Watch who became the “King Beyond the Wall,” the leader of the Wildlings.

– Daario Naharis: A confident and seductive warrior.

– Jojen Reed; Meera Reed: A teenage brother and sister duo with special insights.

– Edmure Tully: A brash young member of the Tully family.

– Ser Brynden Tully (The Blackfish): Catelyn Stark’s uncle.

– Lady Selyse Florent: Stannis Baratheon’s wife.

– Shireen: Stannis’ daughter.

– Olenna Redwyne (The Queen of Thorns): Margaery Tyrell’s sharp-witted grandmother.

– Beric Dondarrion: A skilled knight who is the leader of the outlaw group Brotherhood Without Banners.

– Thoros of Myr: A red priest who follows the same religion as Melisandre.

– Tormund Giantsbane: A Wildling raider.

Now, as someone who hasn't read the books the series is based on, I had to research each of these characters to find out if any of them could be a role filled by a black actor. And based on my findings, none of them are.

But instead of giving that as my final answer, I figured I'll let those of you who are masters of the elaborate universe R.R. Martin created in his voluminous, multi-character series of books, enlighten the rest of us with what you know about these new characters, and whether we should expect to see a black actor play any of them, if any at all.

Season 2 of the show saw black Brits Lucian Msamati and Nonso Anozie (photo above, in character) join the cast.

I am a minority myself and still don't care about representation in a show. Who cares, there are plenty of black shows with no white representation. There is almost no purely south Asian shows or shows where southadians are not being made fun of for their accents or way of dressing. It's obvious that the writer wrote purely white and do what? Is there no black writer just writing for black people or south Asian writer writing for brown people, or Asians writing for Asians. It's 2012 and we are still fussing abut the
Same thing. The show actually has a few colored characters, many in the khalasar and some in qarth and I am sure we will see some more as the show progresses. It's a great show and great books, can't we just read and watch without picking at colors?

its to bad because i loved the books and i love the show.. but i really wish they would get some black actors in some of the roles..

Xaro (Nonso Anozie) was not black or straight in the books nor did Danerys have a black bloodrider. So Benioff and Weiss have already shown they're not afraid to diverge from what they see as minor details in Martin's storyline or the race of some characters. I have no idea what to expect but as was already pointed out Daario (who was probably white) in the books is being cast as non-white. Thoros could be portrayed as Black. The others? Probably not but you never know.

Dont really know how good a black actor would look like with a blue beard, that is the one prerequisite for playing Daario Naharis IMO

This damn racist show needs more Turkish and Native American characters! Were it not for the good story and acting I could barely stand to watch it!

Daario Naharis and Thoros of Myr could be played by black actors. At the very least I suspect they will be played by POCs. Neither of them are native to Westeros.

Apparently someone who saw the casting breakdown for Daario Naharis, said it specified "any ethnicity, except Caucasian". I guess any POC who can act and rock long, curly blue hair is in.
