The original 2010 film, Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief, is said to have grossed $226.5M at the worldwide box office.  Community actress Yvette Nicole Brown will join original star Brandon T. Jackson for the next installment of what's shaping up to be a lucrative franchise, in Percy Jackson & The Olympians: Sea Of Monsters.

Jackson will be reprising his role of Grover from the original film, while Brown will be part of a trio of new actors who portray The Fates, a band of mythical goddesses who control the destiny of humanity.

Thor Freudenthal is directing Sea Of Monsters.

My daughter and I listened to the audio book. True, the film was a let down in comparison, but my then-seven year old still liked the film. I wish that they'd left the kids ages as in the book, i.e., early teens. I guess they didn't want the kids growing and changing too much. I hope for better in the second go-round. I'm curious what role Yvette will play.

Um.. T Jackson was a boring sidekick on the first one. He is like 31 playing a sidekick to a 19 year old ? argh! I am not going to put up with this again.

I hope this is better than the first one. This series is excellent and the movie version not only made the characters much older than the book (to sell to older kids, I assume) it took out nearly everything that made it great and made Brandon T. Jackson's character a standard black male woman chaser when he was nothing like that in the book. My children haven't read this series, so I don't have a child's opinion on the film, but I was certainly dissapointed.
