Spout is neither a news nor a review site. Both news and reviews are prone to appear here, but this movie blog is primarily a place for discussion of trends, buzz, themes and other topics of interest to the film fan who isn't always looking for assisted marketing, conventional criticism or Hollywood reportage. We let the variety of other websites and blogs cover that beat. Here, we like to spout opinion, comment on the current zeitgeist and overanalyze pop culture and mainstream movies. Whether in the form of lists, survey questions or straight editorials, we hope to make thinking deeply about film a fun and stimulating activity for all. If we can spark some conversation in the process, we hope that you'll join us.
To quote from the About page of an old incarnation of the site a definition which still seems to fit, "SpoutBlog is here to discover and digest everything worth knowing in movies each day." Also still standing is the mission for Spout to be the place between academia and movie geekdom you won't find elsewhere.
Managing editor and primary voice of Spout is Christopher Campbell, a longtime blogger, critic and columnist whose work has appeared at Cinematical, MTV News, The Reeler, First Showing, Pajiba, Screen Rant, dGenerate Films' blog and Cinescene. He also currently writes for the Documentary Channel Blog and Movies.com. Finishing up a Masters of Cinema Studies degree at New York University, Campbell is particularly interested in nonfiction, fantasy, sci-fi, satire and anything of a viral nature pertaining to cinema. You can follow his most immediate musings on Twitter @thefilmcynic.
Past contributors to Spout, in old and new form, include Karina Longworth, Daniel Walber, Nigel Smith, Lauren Wissot, Brandon Harris, Kevin Buist, Kevin Kelly, John Lichman, Vadim Rizov and Paul Moore.
