The Only Live-Action Remake of "Lady and the Tramp" We'll Ever Need

While Disney's animated classics continue to get live action remakes, whether of the studio's own doing or via some other production company digging into the same fairytale source materials, it's nice to see that "Lady and the Tramp" will probably be left alone. At least in feature form, that is. Instead of announcing another movie in the vein of either 1996's "101 Dalmations" or "Maleficent," the upcoming reworking of "Sleeping Beauty," Disney has gone ahead and shown us what at least one iconic scene from "Lady and the Tramp" looks like redone in live action form. The following video was produced by the studio itself as both a Valentine's Day treat and part of its promotion of the new DVD and Blu-ray releases of the 1955 film. Enjoy:

"Prometheus" is the New "Inception" - Parody Trailer-wise

Last week we saw a mash-up video combining the trailer of Ridley Scott's upcoming sci-fi tentpole "Prometheus," specifically its music and structure, with scenes from the Pixar classic "Wall-E." We can now officially consider the "Prometheus" parody trailer a meme, as I've now seen two other videos that repurpose old movies for videos using the style of the promos for the new "Alien" prequel. In fact, "Alien" has already been redone with a "Prometheus" parody of its own, one that adds a bit of premature criticism at the end with a spoof of the original film's tagline. The third parody I've come across is for "Spaceballs," which is rather simple. We wonder if only films set in space can qualify?

Mash-Up: "We Need to Talk About Kevin McCallister"

It was inevitable, a mash-up parody trailer combining "We Need to Talk About Kevin" and "Home Alone," and here it is. The video might have been funnier if it wasn't so expected and obvious, but it's not done poorly. Slipping in some scenes from "The Good Son" might have made it better, though.

Mash-Up: "Wall-E" Plus "Prometheus" Equals "Wall-ETHEUS"

It's been awhile since we've seen a repurposed trailer this good, but leave it to Brad Hansen, aka YouTube's moviemaestroten, for bringing us another terrific mash-up. The editor behind "The Lion King Rises" has taken the score and the style of the trailer for Ridley Scott's "Alien" prequel, "Prometheus" and crossed it with footage from Pixar's "Wall-E." The result is a classic genre-changing remix titled "Wall-ETHEUS" which now makes a beloved animated film look like a dark sci-fi/horror epic.

Watch Fritz Lang's "Metropolis" on its 85th Anniversary

On January 10, 1927, Fritz Lang's "Metropolis" premiered in Berlin at the Ufa-Palast am Zoo. The silent sci-fi masterpiece was met with mixed reviews at the time but would go on to be one of the most revered and influencial movies of all time, though not in the form that was shown 85 years ago today.

Watch Harrison Ford Watching the "Indiana Jones" Films for the First Time

Obviously Harrison Ford is not actually watching the first three "Indiana Jones" films in this video. The humorous gag was cleverly cut from footage for a Japanese commercial in which Ford is playing the video game "Uncharted 3" to make it look like he's giddily viewing the Indy movies for the first time. Good job, Dogfood Films, aside from all the responses from people who don't realize it's a joke.

Pingu the Penguin Stars in a Claymation Remake of "The Thing"

Disappointed with that recent prequel/remake of John Carpenter's "The Thing"? To make up for it, here's a short redo of the 1982 version as reenacted by the claymation character Pingu. Not only does it make perfect sense for penguins to remake a sci-fi/horror film set in Antarctica, but this is a great day to share the video since it's National Bird Day (see my list of bird docs elsewhere).
